Job Description
Nature of Appointment: 5 Years Fixed Term Contract (Performance-based)
Salary: R per annum (Level 9) plus 37% in lieu of benefits
Centre: Central Office - Ref: TNC/CO/25-01/1
RequirementsSenior Certificate or equivalent plus an Honours Degree in Psychology/Counselling/Social Work or a related field. A Masters Degree will be an added advantage. Registration with a relevant professional body like the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) or South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP/Council).
A minimum of 3 to 5 years' experience in student counselling, academic advising, or a similar role, preferably within the TVET or higher education sector. A valid driver's licence with at least three years' experience.
Attributes and Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills; empathy and the ability to work with a diverse student population; excellent problem solving and conflict resolution abilities; knowledge of the TVET curriculum and understanding of student challenges.
Must be prepared to take and implement instructions delegated by supervisors/managers. Proven computer literacy, including advanced MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint. Proven ability to effectively manage change. Willingness to travel and work irregular hours to meet deadlines within tight timeframes.

Duties- Consult with students: meet individually or in groups to discuss academic progress, career goals and personal issues affecting performance; guide goal setting and create action plans.
- Provide career and academic advice, share information on career paths, on course activities, continuing education, and exit support.
- Administer and interpret assessments such as aptitude, personality tests and interest inventories to help students understand strengths and weaknesses.
- Develop and implement academic and personal support programmes, including tutoring, mentoring and personal counselling, and provide early intervention.
- Provide resources and referrals to external organisations or certified professionals for issues that affect academic success such as mental health or financial matters.
- Collaborate with faculty and student support staff: mentor lecturers, support officials, parents and other stakeholders to create a supportive learning environment; identify and address student needs.
- Maintain detailed, confidential records of interactions and keep up to date with educational trends and research to ensure effective services.
