IntroductionThe Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) is seeking a strategic, commercially driven Director: Issuer Services to lead listings growth, drive primary market revenue, and strengthen the JSE's position as Africa's premier capital raising destination. This executive role oversees a portfolio influencing nearly R900 million in revenue, guiding origination, new product development, stakeholder engagement, and the JSE's M&A strategy. The Director will shape and execute ambitious growth plans across public and private markets while ensuring the JSE remains innovative, competitive, and globally relevant.
Business and Financial Results Management
- Develop the Issuer Services divisional budget and allocate departmental budgets to meet profit and cost targets.
- Ensure divisional profit and cost targets are achieved without compromising service delivery, long term sustainability, or growth.
- Oversee development and implementation of the annual divisional strategic vision and business plans by:
- Assessing market needs
- Ensuring innovative, value enhancing products and services
- Engaging regularly with executives to track progress and challenges
- Lead JSE relationship management with clients and oversee all commercial matters.
- Drive divisional strategy execution through:
- Effective performance management
- Proactive identification of revenue drivers and leading indicators
- Monthly reconciliation of revenue drivers to actual P&L results
- Review trading statistics and billing information daily and collaborate with MANCO to analyse monthly departmental performance (actuals and forecast).
- Define quality indicators for product and service delivery, allocate responsibilities based on skills, and ensure appropriate technology support.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant reporting through strong Business Intelligence practices, KPI structures, and maker/checker controls.
- Conduct weekly MANCO meetings to cascade Executive Committee information and address strategic and tactical priorities.
- Chair monthly divisional Town Halls to discuss financial performance, achievements, and strategy alignment.
- Facilitate bi weekly Market Shout Outs to review market trends, anticipate activity, and embed a market led culture.
- Represent the JSE through presentations, panels, and media engagements to elevate brand awareness and attract new business.
- Monitor market structure, quality, growth, and liquidity; craft strategic responses in collaboration with industry stakeholders.
- Focus on product and revenue diversification to ensure sustainable growth.
- Direct and support the JSE Group's inorganic and deals strategy with a focus on growth, integration, partnerships, and emerging opportunities.
- Provide strategic direction on new, disruptive, or shifting capital market opportunities (e.g., private markets, digital marketplaces, alternative venues).
Stakeholder Relationship Management
- Interact with peers, department members, managers, and executives in a way that builds openness, trust, and confidence.
- Build strong, sustainable relationships with the CEO, executives, Boards, peers, direct reports, and employees through consistent engagement, delivery on commitments, and thorough preparation.
- Ensure divisional performance enhancing initiatives are supported through cross divisional communication and effective presentation strategies (e.g., town halls).
- Build productive, mutually rewarding relationships with clients and external stakeholders through structured engagement plans and follow ups.
- Strengthen public private relationships to support South Africa's investment growth, enhance the appeal of capital markets, and stimulate capital formation and trade on the JSE.
Development of Strategic Direction and Execution of the M&A Strategy
- Develop strategies and plans to achieve growth in listings, cross listings, and new product development.
- Create strategies to cross sell, grow offerings, and expand business lines with listed clients at value enhancing price points.
- Support organic and inorganic growth initiatives, including developing commercial business cases.
- Collaborate with the CFO to shape and execute the inorganic and commercial strategy.
- Work with EXCO to develop and drive growth strategies focused on profitable expansion.
- Provide strategic direction, guidance, and oversight to the M&A teams.
Deal Origination, Sourcing and Due Diligence
- Identify and source new opportunities locally and internationally aligned to JSE strategy.
- Collaborate and/or competitively position JSE products with peer exchanges and providers to respond to evolving capital raising ecosystems.
- Oversee M&A teams conducting desktop analysis of pipeline opportunities.
- Lead deal analysis, valuation modelling, and due diligence across acquisition targets.
- Manage external M&A advisors and internal teams.
- Drive listings origination and new product development sales efforts across issuers and potential clients.
- Focus on generating markets related revenue across public and private markets.
- Build strong networks to identify capital raising opportunities and position the JSE as a partner of choice.
- Work collaboratively across teams to deliver strong client relationships and sales mobilisation with targeted sales plans.
- Stay abreast of local and global market changes, competition, and innovation to ensure a relevant, forward looking offering.
- Monitor regulatory and market structure changes and recommend strategic responses.
- Cross sell JSE offerings across divisions to strengthen the value proposition for listed entities.
- Explore listing, cross listing, and product development opportunities aligned with JSE group strategy.
- Facilitate dialogues between issuers, investors, and advisors to shape best in class offerings.
- Lead targeted roadshows to position South Africa as a strong investment destination.
- Represent the JSE across media, conferences, and industry platforms to grow listings and business development.
- Oversee JPP sales and operations, including team management.
- Conduct deal assessments, valuations, and indicative analyses for JSE investment initiatives.
- Provide strategic sourcing support for new M&A opportunities across the group.
- Honours degree in Economics/Business, Accounting, Engineering or related field
- MBA or Master's degree would be advantageous
