Deputy Project & Commercial Manager
Job Description
We are looking for a driven and commercially astute Deputy Project & Commercial Manager to support our Project Manager in delivering complex engineering projects from inception through to completion. This role sits at the intersection of technical, commercial, and contractual functions - making it ideal for a well rounded professional who thrives in dynamic project environments.
You will be responsible for ensuring effective coordination of project controls, contract compliance, cost management, and stakeholder communication, while maintaining seamless alignment across engineering, procurement, and finance to achieve project objectives.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS Contract & Commercial Management- Monitor adherence to contract terms, conditions, and obligations
- Manage and track early warnings, compensation events, and claims
- Ensure all contractual notices are issued within required timeframes
- Maintain accurate records of contractual communications and agreements
- Support negotiation and resolution of commercial issues and disputes
- Set up and maintain project cost reporting systems
- Track budgets, commitments, and actual expenditure
- Manage procurement plans and raise purchase requisitions (PRs)
- Monitor subcontractor costs, purchase orders, and logistics
- Identify cost risks and recommend corrective actions
- Work closely with planners to maintain up to date project schedules
- Track actual progress against planned milestones
- Monitor delays, float, and critical path activities
- Follow up with responsible parties to resolve schedule deviations
- Support implementation of approved programme changes
- Maintain and update the project risk register
- Ensure all disciplines provide input into risk identification and mitigation
- Monitor effectiveness of mitigation plans and update accordingly
- Conduct compliance checks on project deliverables and documentation
- Ensure all project records are accurate, complete, and audit ready
- Act as the Project Manager's key support and coordination point
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors, OEMs, and internal teams
- Facilitate communication between engineering, procurement, and finance
- Prepare project reports, presentations, and documentation
- Support administrative tasks including travel coordination and meetings
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Engineering (BEng / BTech preferred)
- Additional certification in Project or Commercial Management (advantageous)
- Proven experience in engineering and project management environments
- Demonstrated experience in contract and commercial management
- Experience working with project planning, cost control, and risk management
- Exposure to subcontractor and OEM coordination
- Engineering project lifecycle and technical fundamentals
- Contract management and commercial principles (e.g., claims, compensation events)
- Project planning and scheduling methodologies
- Cost control, budgeting, and procurement processes
- Risk management frameworks and compliance standards
- Document control and project reporting systems
- Strong analytical and problem solving capability
- Excellent organisational and multitasking skills
- Effective communication and stakeholder management
