We are seeking a versatile COMMIS CHEF for an award winning table d'hôte restaurant in Observatory, Cape Town. This restaurant is celebrated for intimate dining experiences, creative seasonal menus, and a warm, social atmosphere. This is a hands on role where you'll work closely with the Sous Chef and Chef Patron to deliver elevated dining standards and showcase the best of local produce and wines.

The Role You will assist with prep and service, plating, and maintaining high standards of organisation and hygiene. Responsibilities include stock control, fridges and dry store management, and contributing to sustainability practices such as composting and waste reduction. You'll be part of a small, collaborative team where resilience, consistency, and proactive communication are key.

Requirements
  • Matric (Grade 12); culinary diploma/certificate preferred
  • 1-3 years' professional kitchen experience
  • Strong knife skills (vegetable prep, meat, poultry, seafood butchery)
  • All rounder ability across cold, hot, and pastry sections
  • Fluent English, excellent communication skills, and ability to handle pressure
  • Own vehicle or residence
  • Commitment to at least two seasons
Start date: ASAP Salary
  • R5 - 6500, depending on experience and skills
  • Permanent role after 3 month probation
