Job Description
An exciting opportunity exists for a Commercial Lines Underwriter to join the Operations Department. This role will report into the Operations Manager and is based in Centurion.
Job DescriptionDuties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver exceptional client service that exceeds customers' expectations by being proactive, innovative, and identifying the appropriate distribution channel.
- Have in-depth knowledge and understanding of various Commercial products.
- Vast understanding of Commercial Lines product requirements.
- Experience with various insurers - Commercial, Agriculture, Engineering, Liability, Specialist and Hospitality.
- Substantial understanding of how the Commercial Lines Industry operates (e.g., Trends, Auto Rating, Risk reductions, etc.).
- Be a logical thinker.
- Handle inbound and outbound calls efficiently and professionally.
- Be customer driven.
- Ability to work within required SLA's.
- Identify customer needs, clarify information, research issues, and provide solutions or alternatives.
- Seize opportunities to upsell insurance products when they arise.
- Engage customers by going the extra mile and building sustainable relationships.
- Translate product requirements into system functionality - e.g., determine what information must be captured, validate it, and set minimums, maximums, accumulations, and computations (for when item sums insured must be computed from another item within a risk/section).
- Be not afraid to investigate and learn new skills.
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric is an essential requirement.
- FAIS Credits (as per FAIS requirement).
- Must be Fit & Proper in terms of the FAIS Act.
- Regulatory Exam: Representatives.
- Must not be debarred with the FSCA.
Work Experience:
- Must have experience with various commercial products - Comm, Agri, ST, Engineering etc.
- Be able to handle a portfolio of approximately 600 policies.
- Previous experience in a customer support role.
- PC literate - Microsoft Office products skills (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Good typing skills (accuracy & speed).
- Sound knowledge of Insurance principles.
- Websure system experience will be an advantage, but not a requirement.
- Well spoken.
- Client orientated.
- Attention to detail.
- Organized.
- Strong phone and verbal communication skills.
- Active listening and problem solving ability.
- Telephone etiquette is key.
- Effective multitasking and time management skills.
- Ability to speak/read and communicate in Afrikaans and English is an advantage.
- Must be able to handle pressure.
- Must be administratively driven and demonstrate excellent attention to detail skills.
- Must be results oriented and meet the required expectations of the position.
- Must have the ability to make recommendations and decisions.
- Must be a team player and able to work individually.
- Excellent communication skills (must be able to communicate on all levels).
