ROLE SUMMARY The Clinical Nurse Specialist focuses on the delivery of quality competent nursing care. The incumbent acts as a clinical resource and leader in a particular clinical specialty, performing functions at an advanced level competently and consistently. Sound and contemporary knowledge of the area of specialty, together with an advanced understanding of professional nursing, health care delivery and programme planning, allows the CNS to fulfil the following primary roles: 1. LeadershipJob Summary The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) at Netcare Hospitals Pty Ltd is a highly skilled and experienced registered nurse who provides expert clinical leadership, education, and consultation to nursing staff and interdisciplinary teams. This role focuses on improving patient outcomes, advancing nursing practice, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care within a specialized area. Job Responsibilities Provide direct patient care in complex cases, utilizing advanced assessment and critical thinking skills. Develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, protocols, and policies. Act as a clinical expert and resource for nursing staff, providing mentorship, education, and support in a specialized area of practice. Conduct and/or participate in nursing research and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes. Collaborate with physicians, allied health professionals, and other healthcare team members to ensure integrated and comprehensive patient care. Identify and address educational needs of nursing staff, developing and delivering relevant in-service programs and training. Participate in professional development activities to maintain and enhance clinical expertise and leadership skills. Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic nursing initiatives within Netcare Hospitals. Ensure compliance with all relevant professional, ethical, and legal standards of nursing practice. Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring patient and family education and involvement in care decisions. Job Qualifications Registered Nurse (RN) with current and valid registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC). Master's degree in Nursing (MN) with a specialization in a relevant clinical area (e.g., Critical Care, Oncology, Paediatrics). A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive clinical experience in a relevant specialty, with at least 2 years in a leadership or advanced practice role. Demonstrated expertise in a specialized clinical area, evidenced by advanced certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS, oncology certification) where applicable. Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Proven ability to lead, mentor, and educate nursing staff. Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Familiarity with quality improvement methodologies and research principles. Proficiency in using hospital information systems and other relevant technology.
