Introduction To strategically lead the Capital Markets portfolio and drive the markets related revenue generating activity under through primary and secondary markets and other portfolios to position the JSE as the investment destination of choice for the Capital Markets clients.

Business and Financial Results Management
  • Develop the Capital Markets divisional budget and allocate departmental budgets to meet profit and cost targets
  • Ensure divisional profit and cost targets are met without compromising service delivery or long-term growth / sustainability
  • Oversee and direct the development and implementation of the annual divisional strategic vision and business plans by leading the polling of the market for business needs and bench markingagainst global competitors to ensure innovative and value-enhancing products and services and then engaging with responsible executives regularly to keep abreast of progress and challenges Chair all Trading advisory committees across all asset classes
  • Lead JSE relationship management with all clients and lead manage all commercial matters with clients
  • Ensure that the divisional strategy implementation process is on track through goal setting and effective performance management processes for the departmental head and employees as well pro-active identification of the main drivers for success/revenue and tracking of leading indicators on a continuous basis to pro-actively measure the drivers of the revenue in order to reconcile those with the actual profit and lost (P&L) numbers of the month
  • Review trading statistics and billing information on a daily basis and together with the Management Committee (MANCO) review the financial performance, both actuals and full year forecast, of all departments on a monthly basis to ensure progress against divisional strategy
  • Ensure delivery of products and services in ways that contribute to making JSE successful by establishing the delivery quality indicators that define/represent success and assign to senior managers accordingly as well as through effective resource management to ensure that the members are allocated responsibilities in line with their skills set and that the appropriate technology is available to assist resources in delivering agreed outputs
  • Ensure accurate, timeous and compliant reporting though applying Business Intelligence, including statistics to structure informal reporting to ensureappropriate standards of goals setting and Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and recognition of deadline adherence as well through encouragement of a maker/checker process for critical data to ensure continuous reviewing of standards and quality
  • Conduct weekly Management Committee (MANCO) meetings to convey key information as obtained from Executive Committee and discuss/address pre-defined strategic and tactical issues as per set agenda in order to ensure that operations remain in line with the divisional strategy
  • Chair the monthly Town Hall for the entire Capital Market division to discuss financial performance against budget, achievements versus strategy objectives as well as important business highlights to ensure strategic alignment across all personnel to the divisional strategy
  • Facilitate bi-weekly Market Shout-Outs for the entire Capital Markets division to review market trends and anticipate trading and listing activities in order to contribute to on-the-job-training and to embed a markets culture in the Capital Markets division which will contribute to overall insight into market activities
  • Represent the JSE though presentations to various constituents, participating panels and the media on a wide range of topics relating to the JSE in order to raise brand awareness of the JSE, further the understanding of the business proposition and importance of the JSE to the economy as well as to market the JSE for new business
  • Ensure market structure, market quality, growth and liquidity is closely reviewed and help craft strategies and appropriate responses, in collaboration with industry participants, to enhance JSE value proposition
  • Focus on growth and diversification of product and revenue lines to ensure and contribute sustainable growth of the business
  • Direct and critically support the trajectory of JSE group inorganic and deals strategy, with key focus on business growth, integration and development in new lines of acquisition and partnership
  • Focus and give direction to new/disruptive/innovative/shifting areas of opportunity within capital markets that emerge as the financial market landscape changes and evolves viz private markets; digital marketplace; new/alternate venues
Stakeholder Relationship Management
  • Interact with peers, department members, direct reports and manager/s in a way that promotes openness and trust and gives them confidence in one's intentions
  • Ensure that client needs are met and understood through establishing and resourcing a Key Client Management Unit to ensure the JSE is focused on the needs and Service Levels Agreements (SLA's) to the JSE's most critical listed companies and member firms
  • Identify client engagement as a key strategic pillar and segment the target market clients in order to measure performance against set Key Performances Indicators (KPI's) for client engagement as allocated to team members
  • Participate actively and champion the JSE Client Satisfaction Survey process by assuming responsibility as the representative of the ExecutiveCommittee to follow up on action items in order to determine client satisfaction
  • Build strong sustainable relationship with the Chief Executive Officer, other executives, Boards, peers, direct reports and JSE employees through consistent engagement; adhering to committed deliverables within the agreed timeframe and quality expectation; tracking and adhering to agreed follow-ups; consistency of actions and words; as well as through thorough preparation prior to engagement in order to be equipped with value-adding content for discussion and action
  • Ensure that Capital Market's business performance enhancing ideas are signed off by engaging in interdivisional communication and collaboration and utilising communication strategies to present new strategies and major projects, for example at town hall meetings with market participants
  • Build mutually rewarding relationships with clients and external stakeholders through regular and consistent engagement according to a formalised calling plan based on identified key stakeholders to determine a JSE understanding of the stakeholder needs and perspectives and consult with the relevant internal constituents to identify appropriate actions to position the relevant stakeholder relationship at a more mutually rewarding level
  • Build, deepen and expand on key public-private relationships to drive national initiatives to support the growth of investment into SA, enhance the appeal of SA capital markets and channel growth into capital formation and trade activity on the JSE.
Process Management
  • Craft and execute the Capital Markets divisional business plan in collaboration with senior managersand delegate responsibilities accordingly for annual strategy implementation
  • Develop and allocate divisional budgets to enable division to deliver against targets
  • Accept responsibility for the commercial strategy behind all of the JSE markets, including the billing model as well as the philosophy behind the pricing of all the JSE market activity
  • Craft daily, weekly, monthly and annual planning of own activities, business engagements and deliverables as well as own performance management process in line with the divisional objectives as outlined in the JSE and Capital Markets' divisional strategy and the Key Performance Indicators in order to ensure that own and divisional deliverables are met
  • Ensure that divisional capability improves year after year by ensuring that strategic outcomes and Key Performance Indicators are clearly defined and that accountability for these measures is determined, delegated, reviewed and met accordingly
  • Ensure service excellence and productivity improvements by continual review of internal processes and quality, including business processes and resource allocation in order to determine consolidation and streamlining opportunities
  • Participate and provide perspective on topics that are outside of direct area of management and make decisions on own area of responsibility with regards to resource allocation, pricing and commercial decisions that optimise the interest of the JSE and not the interest of Capital Markets
  • Ensure that quality and timeous decisions are made, problems are solved and that corrective actions are taken to divisional results by means of a transparent and formalised Performance Process Management process to ensure that all executive processes, procedures, activities and deliverables are in the best interest of the JSE
  • Ensure that that JSE policy, brand, regulatory governance compliance and other standards are met though Key Performance Indicators, goal settings and tracking of values and adherence to those as well as through 360 feedback process for all staff in the JSE
