Strategic Business Development Manager - Drive Digital & Communication Solutions Across African Mining

This is not a traditional mining sales role-this is about leading with electronic communication, automation, and digital solutions to unlock new opportunities across Africa's mining sector.

We're partnering with a leading organisation in the mining solutions space to appoint a commercially astute professional with a strong background in electronic communications and technology-driven solutions. This role focuses on expanding into new territories across Sub Saharan Africa, with a clear emphasis on mine communication systems, automation, and digital transformation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities Market Expansion & Opportunity Creation
  • Drive strategic expansion into East, West, and Central Africa
  • Identify and map high-potential mining operations and projects
  • Establish presence in territories with limited existing footprint
  • Unlock greenfield and brownfield opportunities across mining operations
Technical Relationship Development

Build and maintain strong relationships with Engineering Managers, Project Engineers, and Technical Decision Makers

  • Engage at site level to understand operational and communication challenges
  • Position yourself as a trusted advisor on digital and communication solutions
Solution & Opportunity Management

Identify opportunities across: Mine communication & automation systems, Digital and software driven solutions (e.g. digital twins), Electrical infrastructure linked to communication networks

  • Conduct early stage technical and commercial qualification
  • Align opportunities with internal product specialists for solution delivery
Cross Functional Collaboration
  • Act as the commercial gateway between site requirements and internal technical teams
  • Coordinate across multiple divisions to deliver integrated, communication led solutions
  • Ensure structured handover and progression of opportunities
  • Track mining expansions, capital projects, and digital transformation trends
  • Monitor competitor positioning within communication and automation space
  • Provide strategic insights to leadership on regional opportunities
Requirements
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in mining industry sales or business development
  • Strong background in electronic communication systems, automation, or digital mining technologies (essential)
  • Proven experience selling into mining operations at engineering and technical level
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and develop new market opportunities
  • Established network within African mining operations
  • Relevant qualification in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, or related field
  • Ability to engage credibly on technical communication and digital solutions
  • Willingness to travel extensively across Sub Saharan Africa
