Job Description JOB PURPOSE An ambitious and technically credible Business Development Manager (BDM) with proven experience in the Electrical, Control and Instrumentation (EC I) Engineering environment plays a pivotal role in driving company growth by identifying new business opportunities, winning strategic projects, fostering client relationships, and aligning technical solutions with market demands.

They build and nurture strategic relationships with clients, industry partners, and stakeholders, translating complex technical solutions into clear business value.

Tailor offerings to client needs, leading proposal development, negotiation, and deal closure.

The BDM will be selling complex EC I engineering, integration, and lifecycle services (design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and maintenance).

QUALIFICATIONS

Matric (Grade 12) National Diploma / Bachelor's degree in Electrical / Electronic / Mechatronic Engineering Registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer / Technologist (Advantageous) Requirements EXPERIENCE Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical business development or sales within the EC I / automation sector.

Proven track record of winning EC I packages for water and wastewater, industrial, energy, or process plants (EPC / M, EPCM, or direct- to-end-client) in the KZN region.

Strong existing network within the said sectors / industries, particularly in the KZN region.

Strong technical understanding of LV / MV switch-gear, MCCs, PLC / SCADA, DCS, instrumentation, and ATEX / IECEx environments.

Commercial acumen - able to structure framework agreements, various construction contracts, and joint ventures.

Excellent presentation, negotiation, and closing skills.

Self-starter, able to work autonomously while collaborating with technical teams.

Strong ability to compile technical proposals and papers.

Proven track record of meeting / exceeding sales targets.

Proficiency in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.

KNOWLEDGE

Consultative Outcome-Based Selling : Experience converting complex technical solutions into compelling business value propositions.

Market Analysis Strategy : Capability to perform market research, competitor bench-marking, SWOT analysis, and segment targeting Financial Acumen : Readiness to manage budgets, pricing strategies, cost-benefit modelling, ROI projections, and contract financials.

Contract Negotiation CRM : Strong negotiation techniques and proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) to manage pipelines and account strategy.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

Strong understanding of electrical and automation systems, construction processes, and industry standards.

Ability to interpret technical specifications and translate them into business solutions.

Strategic Planning : Developing and implementing project management strategies, frameworks and methodologies.

Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, negotiation and presentation skills.

Analytical Thinking : Strong problem-solving skills.

Address complexity under pressure; employ structured troubleshooting.

NETWORKING ABILITIES

Established network within the industry, including relationships with contractors, consultants, and end-users.

Ability to adapt to changing market conditions and client needs.

Proactive approach to identifying and capitalizing on new business opportunities.

Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor junior staff, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
