The role

The Business Development Manager (BDM) will be responsible for driving client and asset growth across Fairtree's product range by developing strong relationships with financial advisers, wealth managers, multi-managers, DFMs and platforms.

The role requires a proactive, professional individual with exceptional communication skills, deep investment knowledge, and a proven track record of raising assets in the South African investment industry.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Relationship Management

  • Grow Fairtree assets under management (AUM) within the Gauteng region.
  • Build, maintain, and deepen relationships with:
  • Independent financial advisers (IFAs);
  • DFMs & Multi-Managers;
  • Platforms and discretionary fund managers.
  • Conduct regular client events, meetings, presentations, and investment updates.

Sales Strategy & Execution:

  • Develop and execute a regional sales strategy aligned with Fairtree's growth objectives.
  • Identify new business opportunities and pipeline prospects.
  • Track activities, manage pipeline, and report progress to the business development head.

Product Knowledge & Technical Competency:

  • Maintain in-depth understanding of Fairtree's unit trusts, hedge funds, offshore strategies, and
    segregated mandates.
  • Explain performance drivers clearly and confidently to sophisticated investors.
  • Work closely with portfolio managers to stay updated on portfolios, positioning, and strategy
    developments.

Marketing & Events:

  • Represent Fairtree at industry events, conferences, and client functions.
  • Support in organising regional client events, webinars, and roadshows.

Operational Excellence:

  • Ensure that all CRM/BD reporting is accurate and up to date.
  • Adhere to Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles and all compliance standards.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Relevant bachelor's degree in finance, Economics, Investments or Business Management.

Ideal Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in business development or distribution within asset management or
    wealth management.
  • Demonstrated track record of raising assets and managing high-value adviser/wealth manager
    relationships.
  • Experience selling multi-asset, equity, hedge fund, and fixed-income strategies.
  • Existing relationships and networks in Gauteng.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets and investment products.
  • Excellent presentation and communication abilities.
  • Highly professional, confident, and able to engage with sophisticated clients.

  • High integrity and alignment with Fairtree's values and client centric culture.

Location & Travel:

  • Based in Gauteng.
  • Travel within the region for adviser meetings, presentations, and events.
