CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The Department of Media and Communication at Nelson Mandela University is seeking to expand its media skills base in the field of digital animation. In this regard, the department is looking for an Associate Lecturer to facilitate the teaching and learning process for undergraduate and postgraduate students, to engage in scholarly activities including research, accredited publication, conference presentations, and academic engagement, and to produce creative outputs.

Associate Lecturer

CORE COMPETENCIES

Associate Lecturer



  • Experience in undergraduate teaching and supervision.

  • Sound knowledge of the discipline of media studies, with a specialization in digital animation (practical and theoretical competency). Related competency in film production will be an advantage.

  • Emerging research productivity both through accredited and creative outputs.

  • Willingness to participate in engagement activities, drawing on the discipline.

  • Participate in Departmental and/or School and/or Faculty activities.

  • Engage in further postgraduate study (Masters and PhD qualifications)


REQUIREMENTS

Associate Lecturer



  • An Honours (but preferably a Masters) Degree in Media Studies or a cognate discipline with a specialization in 2D Animation.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite Animation software programmes

  • At least 1 year of experience in undergraduate and Honours teaching and supervision.

  • At least 1 year of 2D Animation industry experience (please provide a portfolio of evidence in this regard).

  • Proficiency in 3D animation (Blender, 3ds Max), Video editing (Premiere Pro), and Sound design (Adobe Audition, Reaper) are advantageous

  • Evidence of academic and/or community engagement.
