ROLE SUMMARY The Enrolled Nurse is responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of a patient or group of patients and will function under the direct and/or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse. They can function as either a shift leader or as support to the Registered Nurse (RN). The EN plays a pivotal role in managing the nursing team to ensure that each patient is always treated with dignity and respect. The EN ensures that the patient is in a safe environment and that their individual needs are addressed, thereby delivering high-quality mental health care and physical health care to patients within Akeso Clinics. The EN always has knowledge and skills to confidently role-model a high standard of nursing practice. The Enrolled Nurse will be responsible for the assessment, care and meeting of patient needs and will also be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of appropriate programmes of care to ensure high-quality patient care.Job Summary The Enrolled Nurse at Akeso is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients within the scope of practice for an enrolled nurse, under the supervision of a registered nurse. This role focuses on patient well-being, safety, and comfort within a mental health hospital setting. Job Responsibilities Assist registered nurses in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Administer medication as prescribed and according to hospital policies and procedures. Monitor and record patients' vital signs, observations, and relevant clinical data. Assist patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, mobility, and feeding. Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for patients. Document all care provided accurately and in a timely manner. Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team. Participate in patient education and health promotion activities. Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and professional nursing standards. Identify and report any changes in a patient's condition to the registered nurse promptly. Job Qualifications Enrolled Nurse qualification registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC). Current SANC registration and valid practice certificate. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as an Enrolled Nurse, preferably within a mental health or psychiatric setting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Sound knowledge of nursing principles and practices. Compassionate and patient-focused approach to care.
