ROLE SUMMARY The Enrolled Nurse Auxiliary (ENA) plays a pivotal role in ensuring that each patient is treated with dignity and respect at all times. The ENA ensures that the patient is in a safe environment, and that their individual needs are addressed, thereby delivering high-quality mental health and physical health care to patients within the Akeso Clinic. The ENA has knowledge, skills, attitude, and role models a high-standard practice at all times. Position description is a broad indication of the work required from individual personnel holding a particular position. The Enrolled Nurse Auxiliary will be responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of a patient or group of patients and will function under the direct and/or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse. This includes caring for the patient, his possessions, documentation and the control and economical use of stock and equipment in the ward.Job Summary The Enrolled Nurse Auxiliary (ENA) at Akeso Clinics, part of Netcare Hospitals, provides basic nursing care and support to patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, contributing to a therapeutic and safe environment within a mental health setting. Job Responsibilities Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, mobility, and feeding, ensuring dignity and respect. Monitor and record vital signs, intake and output, and report any significant changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse promptly. Observe and report on patient behavior, mood, and interactions, contributing to the ongoing assessment and care planning. Assist with the administration of medication under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, adhering to all protocols. Maintain a clean and organized patient environment, including tidying patient rooms and ensuring adequate supplies. Provide emotional support and engage in therapeutic communication with patients, promoting their well-being. Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges of patients, ensuring a smooth and supportive process. Participate in team meetings and contribute to the interdisciplinary care plan. Adhere to all Netcare and Akeso policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines, including infection control and patient confidentiality. Document care provided accurately and timely in patient records. Job Qualifications Enrolled Nurse Auxiliary qualification recognized by the South African Nursing Council (SANC). Current registration with SANC as an Enrolled Nurse Auxiliary. Minimum of 1 year post-qualification experience, preferably within a mental health or psychiatric setting. Basic computer literacy. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively within a team. Strong empathy and compassion for patients. Ability to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
