Job Summary

The Academic Quality and Curriculum Assurance Officer is a junior academic governance role that supports the integrity, compliance, and continuous improvement of the institution's academic programmes.

The role provides operational support to the Academic Quality function by assisting with curriculum assurance, quality systems, moderation processes, programme reviews, and audit readiness. Working closely with faculties, moderators, and academic governance structures, the incumbent ensures that academic offerings remain compliant, well documented, and defensible during internal and external reviews.

This role provides exposure to the full academic quality lifecycle while supporting senior governance roles in maintaining institutional standards.

1. Quality Assurance and Curriculum Assurance Support

  • Assist in the implementation of quality assurance processes across all academic offerings.
  • Ensure academic documentation such as fact sheets, faculty handbooks, and programme records adhere to institutional templates and standards.
  • Support faculties in maintaining accurate and compliant programme documentation.
  • Provide general QA administrative support within the Academic Quality function.

2. Moderation and Assessment Quality Processes

  • Coordinate moderation processes across programmes, ensuring scripts, papers, and memoranda are properly reviewed.
  • Liaise with internal and external moderators to ensure timely completion of moderation tasks.
  • Check and track moderation reports and ensure feedback is communicated to faculties.
  • Support quality checks on assessment papers and memoranda before release to students.
  • Assist in the allocation and tracking of markers and moderators for modules and programmes.

3. Programme Development and Curriculum Support

  • Support Heads of Faculty and academic teams in curriculum alignment, module structuring, and programme documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation and organisation of documentation required for new programme development and curriculum updates.
  • Ensure that curriculum documentation reflects applied learning, digital pedagogies, and regulatory alignment.

4. Programme Monitoring, Reviews, and Continuous Improvement

  • Assist in coordinating cyclical programme reviews across faculties.
  • Collate student performance data, external examiner feedback, and programme information for review purposes.
  • Support the preparation of academic review reports and inputs into the Self Evaluation Report.

5. Audit, Accreditation, and Regulatory Readiness

  • Collate and organise academic programme evidence required for audits and accreditation reviews.
  • Support preparation of documentation for CHE, DHET, and SAQA submissions.
  • Ensure programme records and documentation are audit ready at all times.

6. Staff Allocation and Faculty Liaison

  • Assist in coordinating the allocation of full time and sessional academic staff to programmes and modules.
  • Maintain accurate records of academic staff involvement across programmes.
  • Liaise with faculties to ensure appropriate staffing alignment for programme delivery.

7. Collaboration and Faculty Engagement (Not weighted but embedded throughout the JD)

  • Work closely with Heads of Faculty, moderators, and academic teams to support quality and compliance processes.
  • Support senior Academic Quality and Governance roles in strengthening QA systems and audit readiness.
  • Engage with external moderators and academic stakeholders where required.
Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree at NQF Level 7 in Education, Law, Public Administration, Governance, Political Studies, International Relations, or a related field.

A postgraduate qualification in a related field will be an advantage.

Experience

  • 1 to 3 years' experience in a higher education environment involving academic administration, quality assurance support, curriculum documentation, moderation processes, or programme coordination.
  • Demonstrated experience working with academic documentation, assessment processes, or audit and accreditation preparation.
  • Exposure to CHE accreditation processes or academic review environments will be advantageous.

  • Willingness to learn quality systems, regulatory frameworks, and academic governance processes.
