THE POSITION
Under general supervision, performs operations as necessary to assist in the development and implementation of the Fire Department’s goals and objectives; directs, coordinates, plans, organizes and supervises an entire shift of Fire Department personnel and resources during emergency responses and administrative operations; and provides highly responsible and complex administrative assistance for overall department operations to the Fire Chief or designee.
Training and Experience:
• Equivalent to an Associate’s degree (60 semester or 90 quarter hours) from an accredited college or university with major course work in fire science or a closely related field. Bachelor’s degree highly desirable.
• Minimum of seven (7) years paid experience with a municipal fire department or fire district.
• Must have passed probation as a Fire Captain or above;
• A current/valid California State EMT or EMT-P and CPR certification at time of appointment.
• A valid California class B or Firefighter Exempt California driver license is desirable.
• Must complete the assigned task book by the end of the probation period.
• Completion of Advanced (ICS-400) training is required.
• Must complete the CSFM Chief Officer Certification within 18 months of appointment.
• Advanced management leadership training from a recognized industry is desirable.
Other Special Requirements
Must live within 150 miles of the City limits by the end of their probationary period. The calculation of the 150 miles shall be made using Google Maps driving directions.

The Firefighter-EMT is responsible for the safety and security of the facilities they protect. The Firefighter-EMT acts as a visible deterrent to crime and client rule infractions, as well as detects and reports suspicious, unsafe or criminal acts at or near their assigned posts, which may be a threat to the property, clients, guests or employees at the site.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
• Be at least 21 years of age with high school diploma or equivalent
• Possess effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and the general public in a professional and effective manner
• Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
• Health License as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or higher
• Must have current CPR/AED Certification
• Must pass physical and Fit Test required for Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
• Must obtain and maintain annual Hazardous Materials Technician Certification (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120)

• Driving Positions: must possess a valid Driver’s License with at least one year of driving experience, a clean driving record (no major violations within last 36 months, no more than 1 accident in last 24 months, no more than one minor moving violation in last 24 months), a minimum level of insurance as required by Company policy, and the ability to safely operate a vehicle required.
• Have intermediate computer skills to operate innovative, wireless technology at client specific sites
• Ability to handle crisis situations at the client site, calmly and efficiently
• Safely respond to emergency incidents, fight fires, mitigate hazardous material incidents, rescue trapped persons in confined spaces, and administer basic life support (BLS) treatment.
• Able to perform firefighting duties including advancing hose lines, fire apparatus pump operations, safely operate power tools, climb ladders, and wear firefighter protective gear including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) weighing approximately 70 pounds.
• Able to:
• Work in various environments such as cold weather, rain/snow or heat
• Occasionally lift or carry up to 80 pounds
• Climb stairs, ramps, or ladders occasionally during shift
• Stand or walk on various surfaces for long periods of time

After successful completion of the Fire Academy, the salary is increased to $6,984-$9,394/Mo.
Applicants will need to pass a Background, Polygraph, and Physical/Psychological Exam prior to appointment.
Under direction, to graduate from a City sponsored Firefighter recruit academy with demonstrated abilities to respond to alarms and to protect life and property; to participate in fire suppression, prevention, and emergency medical training; and station, apparatus, and equipment maintenance; and to do related work as required.
While in the academy, learns to: respond to alarms and assist in fire suppression, including lifesaving and rescue; perform salvage operations; assists in maintenance of fire apparatus and equipment; maintains fire station and grounds; make required fire prevention inspections; participates in required training programs; performs minor fire hydrant maintenance; participates in preparing exhibits and giving demonstrations for fire prevention and public education purposes; respond and assist in medical emergencies; drives on City business.
Employment Standards:
Knowledge of elementary physics, chemistry, and mechanics.
Skill in mechanical aptitude.
Ability to learn technical fire fighting principles and techniques and principles of hydraulics applied to fire suppression; understand and follow oral and written directions; keep records and prepare reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public.
Education/Training:
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Special Conditions & Requirements:
Applicants must maintain the physical endurance, muscular strength, and agility to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of Fire Fighter, specifically including but not limited to stooping, lifting and/or carrying heavy objects, running, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing ladders, pulling heavy hoses, wearing heavy equipment, and crawling; must agree not to use tobacco on or off duty for as long as employed by the City of Burbank Fire Department.
Employees in this classification, who are required by applicable laws and regulations to have respiratory protection, shall comply with the American National Standards Institute’s requirements on Practices for Respiratory Protection.
Employees in this miscellaneous, non-safety, classification will not participate in "live fire" situations or responses except under controlled, training exercises.
Age:
Must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment.
License & Certificates:
A valid California Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent and State of California Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certificate at time of appointment. The Northfield Township Fire Department, a combination department, is accepting applications for a hiring list for the position of full-time Firefighter. The Northfield Township Fire Department is a non-transporting BLS licensed department running 800 incidents per year combined Fire and EMS. The Department covers 36 square miles with 6 miles of Highway US 23. We operate out of 2 stations.
The Firefighter engages in fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue and community risk reduction activities to protect life and property. This position ensures the constant state of operational readiness of the department’s personnel, equipment, facilities, and works to reduce the impact of fire on our community. Work is subject to the hazards encountered in emergency fire and rescue operations including the physical and mental demands inherent in public safety work.
