What will you do as a Bilingual Counselor?
Role Description
As a Counselor, you will help individuals and families who are experiencing financial hardship. What To Expect:

Basic Qualifications:

• Required to obtain NFCC and HUD Housing Counselor Certification within 6 months of start

SUMMARY:
The Collections Counselor is responsible for collections and performance monitoring (via alerts supplied by a third-party vendor) of the Bank's small business credit card portfolio. This role is designed to be consultative to the customer with collection of the delinquency a natural outgrowth of these consultative efforts. The position also performs collection related duties including, but not limited to, daily interaction with outsourced collection vendors, assisting on the collection efforts of late-stage consumer and business delinquencies, and processing of requests for hardships/workouts. Work requires judgment, initiative, tact, and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Procedures are generally well defined; supervision is received in policy and interpretive matters.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Make calls to delinquent small business cardholders to ascertain reason for delinquency and establish payment plan to cure account delinquency.
• Establish and maintain rapport with habitually delinquent small business cardholders. and/or accounts in hardship/workout programs.
• Tactfully educate the cardholder while providing long term solutions to delinquency.
• Use problem solving techniques to help overcome cardholder objections.
• Negotiate suitable pay arrangements while stressing urgency and follow up as needed.
• Assist in the collection efforts of late-stage consumer delinquencies as needed.
• Perform monthly reconciliations on invoices presented by outside collection and/or recovery agencies (consumer and small business related).

• Leverage Agent Bank Relationship where appropriate to achieve success in collection efforts.
• Keep current with the activities and pronouncements of the CFPB and ensure that the Bank's collection activities foster compliance with these activities/pronouncements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Utilizes further appropriate collection methods if initial attempts do not secure required payment. Recommends extensions of due dates. Suggests consolidations, financial counseling, and repossessions as needed.
• Monitors loans to ensure members have adequate insurance coverage to protect collateral and the Credit Union's interests.
• Acts on notification of impounded vehicles to protect the Credit Union's interest.
• Ability to read credit reports.
• Performs skip tracing.
• Recommends accounts for repossession and foreclosure. Follows up with agent to ensure prompt recovery of collateral. Recommends and completes small claims court complaints and post judgment actions including garnishments, supplemental orders, and executions. Refers accounts to management for bankruptcy actions. • Recommends possible charge-offs. Researches and prepares the Write-off Summary Sheet. Performs collections efforts in accordance with Credit Union policies and procedures and ensures they are legally compliant.
• Assumes responsibility for the efficient administration of collections activities. To include; keeping accurate and up-to-date activity reports on late, potentially late, and delinquent loans; documenting all collection actions taken, including telephone conversations, alternative financial arrangements, and correspondence on computer; researching loan accounts that appear on late and potentially late records to ensure that Credit Union errors are detected promptly. Provides members the opportunity to fully explain their loan status.
• Assumes responsibility for ensuring that professional business relations are established and maintained with Credit Union members and external contacts. Maintains the Credit Union's professional reputation throughout collections operations and in all contacts with members. Maintains confidentiality.
• Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with Credit Union personnel. Assists area personnel as needed. Keeps management informed of activities, progress toward established objectives, and of any significant problems. Attends and participates in meetings as required.

This position is open to candidates who currently reside in the state of New Mexico only. Applicants that reside in the Santa Fe or Espanola areas may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Applicants outside of these local areas may be considered for fully remote work.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Level I:
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of the applicable core system, including loan, deposit, and collections platforms.
• Informs management of trends in underwriting contributing to delinquent/charge off loans.
• Contacts delinquent account holders to cure defaults; utilizes various skip tracing tools, and maintains accurate files, and ensures accurate and timely documentation of all collection efforts.
• Analyzes financial situation of delinquent borrowers to include credit bureau reports and provides sound recommendation for solutions to successfully resolve delinquencies.
• Processes insurance, disability, credit life, and whole loss claims.
• Process all member extension requests.
• Promotes a needs based member education culture within the department to identify opportunities to promote credit union products and services to live DNCU’s mission of improving lives while meeting and/or exceeding established member education goals.
• Work effectively in a team environment contributing to the success of the department and organization.
• Comply with all regulations, policies, security procedures, and complete all mandatory annual compliance courses.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Level II ( to include Level I requirements):
• Accurately update credit bureau reporting when applicable
• Recommends accounts for further action including workouts, legal and charge offs.
• Maintains a working knowledge of Chapter 7 and 13 Bankruptcies and processes basic bankruptcy claims.
• Maintain a working knowledge of Repossessions up to and including Liquidation.
Salary
Level I:
The pay range for this position is $19.32 to $24.15. New hires typically brought into the organization at a rate between the range minimum and the range maximum, depending on the qualifications, internal equity and the budgeted amount for the role.
Level II:
The pay range for this position is $21.52 to $26.90. New hires typically brought into the organization at a rate between the range minimum and the range maximum, depending on the qualifications, internal equity and the budgeted amount for the role.

Requirements
Experience:
One year to three years of similar or related experience.
Education:
A high school education or GED.
Interpersonal Skills:

Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.

As a Debt Management Counselor your primary role will involve helping established clients effectively manage their debt. This includes overseeing all accounts with their creditors and providing consistent, compassionate support throughout their financial journey.
Position Summary
This position offers support to a credit counseling process that includes a complete financial review and personalized budget, along with recommended solutions to help clients resolve their debt, achieve financial freedom and start saving for the future.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• As a bilingual Credit Counselor, you will talk with English and Spanish speaking clients about their current financial situation, challenges and hardships to help them understand their available options. Credit Counselors build trust with clients by listening carefully and responding with kindness and compassion. Clients should come away from talking with you feeling relieved and hopeful they have found a solution to their financial challenges.
• You will walk clients through a complete review of their current income, expenses and debts and use that information to create a budget using our proprietary software. The information clients provide will also determine the solutions you recommend, which may include a Debt Management Plan. Take Charge America manages these plans that allow consumers to pay off credit debt more quickly than doing it on their own.
If the debt management plan is their best option, you will discuss the program benefits and encourage them to enroll in the plan.
• We offer a comprehensive training program to help you become familiar with all aspects of personal finance and credit, as well as the education and services we offer. By the time you begin taking calls, you'll feel confident and well-prepared to help clients find solutions and change lives.

Education & Experience
• 1-2 years in a phone-based/customer service role
• Experience in the financial service industry, sales, or collections
• You have a High School Diploma or GED — some college is great, too!
• You are fluent in both English and Spanish — majority of calls will be English
• Required to obtain NFCC and FCRA certification during training
• Required to obtain HUD Housing Counselor certification within 6 months of hire
