Snyder & Associates has an immediate opening for an archaeologist. As a new position to our firm, this candidate has the flexibility to create their day-to-day schedules and fully develop this role within our team.
Projects, both local and non-local, will be mobilized from our Ankeny office and include tasks such as communication between team sectors, project planning, and management, supervising cultural resource inventories, assisting in compliance with various cultural resource-related laws and regulations, and writing and reviewing reports. A successful applicant will be independently motivated and organized.
• Prepare technical scopes of work for proposals and projects, project budgets, requests for proposals for contractors, and technical reports.
• Assist with project management tasks related to cultural resources investigations.
• Plan and lead the implementation of archaeological surveys, site recordation, and site excavations (evaluations and data recovery).
• Prepare cultural resources reports in support of Section 106 compliance and state regulations.
• Coordinate with federal, state, and/or local agencies to support projects.
• Assist agencies and other clients with Native American coordination.
• Prepare National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) cultural resources sections.
• Interact with clients and attend client and project meetings.
• Participate actively in trade organizations and conferences, deliver presentations, and write technical papers.
• This position has a field component; travel and some overnight travel is required.
• Master's degree, or higher, in Archaeology or a closely related field.
• Registered Professional Archaeologist preferred.
• 5 years of archaeological consulting or agency experience in the Midwest
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and ArcGIS
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and experience independently preparing complex technical documents for various cultural resources projects.

This is an on-call Temporary field technician position who will be directly responsible for fulfilling all duties and responsibilities associated with archaeological fieldwork throughout the Western United States. Residence in Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Colorado or New Mexico is highly preferred but not required.
The pay for this role is $20-25/hr, based on experience.What you'll do

Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field
• At least 6 months of archaeological field experience or field school experience

• Ability to work in diverse, often difficult terrain, that will involve hiking long distances to and from project areas (up to 5 to 10 miles per day)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work well with others and be a proactive part of a project team
• Excellent attention to detail and detailed note taking skills
• A valid driver's license
• Ability to operate GPS units and navigate using USGS maps/aerial photography, and compass preferred.

Work Environment
• This is a temporary, part-time, non-exempt, hourly wage position. Approximately 45 to 50 hours per week.
• Overnight and day travel as needed to support field work.

• Per Diem is often on a GSA rate and is based on the location of the fieldwork. Per Diem is generally never less than $50 per day.

• Opportunities for post-field office work are often available; however these are at the Project Field Director and Principal Investigator's discretion. Interest in a temporary post-field office position should be communicated to the field director or crew chief.

Position Details
The Archeologist position is ideally suited for motivated individuals possessing a strong work ethic and enjoy working both independently and as a team member in the fields of archaeology, anthropology, or related disciplines. The Archeologist will be based out of the Glennallen, AK office and subsequent project assignments will be determined as applicable.
This position is employed by the Land and Resources Department while assisting multiple natural and cultural resource partners in the management, improvement, and protection of Ahtna lands and sites, specifically Ahtna cultural and historical sites. Projects will include developing an Ahtna Cultural and Historical Catalog on Ahtna owned lands, including within the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve Unit Boundary using available records and reports and creating a catalog of those sites with GPS coordinates and colored photographs. This position will also conduct fieldwork to verify records and identify previously undocumented resources within the Ahtna Region.
The Archeologist is required to perform various fieldwork; therefore, the Archeologist must successfully complete an All-Terrain Vehicle, Snowmachine and Boat operating safety course which can be provided by Ahtna Inc. upon appointment to the position.
• Develops and maintains a cultural resource database by standardizing, updating, expanding, and editing data
• Conducts inventories which includes compiling and analyzing existing data from institutional files and databases, professional literature, archival and other historical documents, original interviews, and other indirect sources
• Planning and executing field surveys at varying intensities, overseeing the fieldwork of other employees, contractors, and permittees, and preparing data summaries analysis, syntheses, and reports
• Evaluates cultural resources and serves as POC for the State Historic Preservation Officer, federal agencies, and other organizations.
• Participates in management planning as a team member to assess plans impacts to cultural resources
• Drafts a cultural resource management plan, project plans, and makes recommendations for commitments and actions needed for long-term cultural resource protection
• Coordinates with federal, state, and local governments with technical advice on development plans to protect cultural resources
• Monitor Ahtna lands by various modes of transportation including, but not limited to: truck, All-Terrain Vehicles, snow machine, boat, airplane and hiking
• Proficiently use Global Positioning System (GPS) during field use
• Mavigate difficult geographical terrain and associated elements in remote locations in east-central Alaska under potential extreme climatic conditions
• Possesses knowledge of the local flora and fauna
• Exhibit proficient cartography and satellite imagery interpretation skills
• Operate an ATV’s, including loading, unloading and backing trailers
• Understands wilderness survival skills, possesses a general knowledge of cold weather operations for equipment and personnel
• Reports to supervisor any unusual or suspicious conditions/behavior detected upon interaction with the public
• Must professionally represent the Ahtna Land and Resource Department with shareholders, business community and the public
• Attend meetings related to Ahtna lands as requested
• Must understand basic federal and state cultural and historical site laws and regulations
• Be a local knowledge resource to Ahtna shareholders, Ahtna villages, and the Land and Resource Department in the Ahtna Region
• Be a technical resource to local Ahtna shareholders and the general public to provide education about the location of Ahtna cultural and historical sites

Physcial requirements

Work environment
Work performed outdoors will include exposure to extreme weather conditions and requires strenuous hiking over arduous terrain and carrying a backpack up to 50 pounds. It will also include patrol and field data collection by car, truck, ATV, boat, snow machine, and/or airplane. Forms of transportation can be bumpy and can cause whole-body vibrations, jarring, and/or awkward movements.

Position Overview/Duties
As an Archeologist (GS-0193-13) for the Albuquerque District, you will serve as the regional expert in cultural resource management, focusing on Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and Appendix C of 33 CFR Part 325, and will play a key role in advising and coordinating complex and controversial projects. Your expertise will support the Corps’ Tribal Center of Expertise by providing critical insights and leadership on historic preservation matters, tribal consultation, and compliance with applicable regulations and policies. You will be responsible for evaluating historic properties, conducting assessments of impacts, and resolving adverse effects on a wide range of infrastructure projects such as transportation, mining, residential and commercial developments, and enforcement cases.
You will advise on the identification of historic properties, evaluation of significance, assessment of project impacts, and mitigation strategies. Your role includes reviewing cultural resource surveys, archaeological site testing, and other environmental studies to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. As the Center's specialist in tribal consultation, you will provide guidance on regulatory actions and ensure compliance with tribal consultation protocols. You will also support civil works and military construction projects, advising the Project Delivery Teams (PDTs) on consultation needs and overseeing tribal consultation processes for challenging projects. You will review and provide expertise on technical documents related to historic properties, tribal consultation, and impact assessments. This includes ensuring that all project materials comply with the established regulatory framework and recommending corrective actions as needed. Will represent the Center in conferences, hearings, and meetings related to historic preservation and tribal consultation, ensuring clear communication of regulatory requirements and fostering collaboration with stakeholders such as Tribal Historic Preservation Officers (THPOs), State Historic Preservation Officers (SHPOs), and other federal agencies.

We are looking to expand our Northern California archaeological team. This position can be based out of any of our Nor-Cal offices and will report to a Staff Supervisor. This position allows remote work, however, expect to spend some time in the office throughout the year. Work consists predominantly of cultural review and report writing for utility projects throughout the State of California. Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- BA/BS degree (MS/MA preferred) in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field.
- 3 - 5 + years of professional level experience researching, analyzing, developing and managing archaeological and historic preservation plans, staff, and resources.
- Meet Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology to perform duties for NHPA Section 106 and NEPA compliance.
- Ability to be added to archaeological permits on state, federal, and tribal lands in the U.S. Southwest.
- 3 + years experience working with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
- Working knowledge of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Section 106 compliance, and general archeological practices is required.
- Knowledge of the State Historic Preservation Act (A.R.S. § 41-861 et seq), and the Arizona Antiquities Act (A.R.S. § 41-841 et seq), Title 37, Public Land statutes, and ASLD Administrative Rules and Regulations.
- Experience working on local, state, and federal projects.
- Knowledge of Southwestern archaeology, anthropology, history and historic preservation.
- Ability to analyze technical reports for accurate information regarding cultural resources, legal descriptions, and land ownership.

Responsibilities:
Tetra Tech Inc., an industry leader and nationally recognized engineering and consulting firm, is seeking a professional, motivated, and intelligent candidate to fill one Staff Archaeologist position for our Federal NEPA, NHPA, and Environmental Compliance team. The person selected will become a part of the Tetra Tech Environmental Government Services cultural resource team and will conduct a variety of technical writing, field, administrative, and project planning tasks to support Federal, State, and commercial contracts. Project assignments will primarily be in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Midwest regions of the United States.
The ideal candidate will meet the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology, have a minimum of five years in cultural resource management, and extensive experience managing large archaeological projects and training field staff in the Eastern United States. The candidate should have excellent technical writing skills and the ability to produce reports for review by subject matter experts of federal, state, and tribal agencies under Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the National Environmental Policy Act, among other historic preservation laws/regulations. Candidates should be able to lead all phases of field work, oversee the production of work plans, management summaries and technical reports, in addition to managing laboratory analysis, QA/QC of GIS data, and participating in business development.
This is a full-time salaried position. This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.
• Support Federal, State, and commercial projects with the development of desktop reviews, work plans, technical reports, archaeological and built environment surveys, data collection, monitoring, evaluative testing, and site mitigation across multiple states - primarily those of the Southeastern, Mid-Atlantic, and Midwest regions of the US.
• Work independently on contract deliverables such as letter reports, technical reports, and work plans.
• Support and report to the Cultural Resource Program Manager and Senior Archaeologists for project needs.
• Support Project Managers to identify, plan, and track project deliverables.
• Work with clients, State Historic Preservation Offices, Tribal Historic Preservation offices, and other stakeholders to meet Section 106 compliance requirements.
• Author cultural resource sections of NEPA documents including, but not limited to, Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements.
• Provide subject matter expertise and technical guidance to team members in support of their functions.
• Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
• Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness.
