The Rodent Shoppe is HIRING. We are a small company that breeds feeder animals for birds of prey, reptiles, etc. Handling rodents for this position is a must, if you are unable to do so then this job isnt for you. We are looking for someone reliable to work 40 hours a week with overtime available, scheduled hours are 6am to 2pm.
We require every employee to have their own transportation to and from work. We may perform a 4 hour working interview, this allows us to evaluate your abilities and for you to evaluate if our company is right for you.
The job does require employees to be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds.

Use equipment that bags and seals semen doses in a timely manner, including labeling all doses. Understand and prepare an extender; use it in the extending of semen for mass production. Assist with orders and record keeping. Record boar IDs with batch numbers, processing, and expiration dates. Track clients' names, addresses, and number of doses ordered. Ready orders for delivery. Log daily accounts with delivery charges. Keep daily lab logs. Perform cleaning and maintenance tasks as scheduled. Physical Requirements : Ability to stand, kneel and walk on concrete floors most of the day. Medium strength is required for the training of boars, collection of semen, and lifting of buckets. May have to lift or assist in the positioning of boars. Ability to reach for and handle supportive devices or equipment such as thermoses, feed scoops, gates, etc. Possess near visual acuity and depth perception to examine boars and semen for pertinent detail. The animal environment is dusty and has animal dander, odor, and noise. Appropriate personal protection equipment is provided. Requirements: College degree and professional license English proficiency required Experience with pork semen collection Skills and Abilities: Dependable, self-motivated, detail-oriented, neat, flexible, people-oriented, able to maintain confidentiality, possess organizational and time management skills, and proven skills in effective communication.

Animal Breeder - Job Overview: As an Animal Breeder, you will be responsible for overseeing the breeding program to improve the quality, health, and productivity of the herd. This role involves selecting suitable breeding pairs, monitoring the breeding process, and ensuring that animals are raised in a healthy and supportive environment. You will work closely with farm management to optimize breeding outcomes and ensure high-quality livestock for milk or beef production. Skills & Abilities: Monitor animal health and coordinate with veterinarians to administer preventative care and treatment. Monitor cows for signs of heat and pregnancy; record reproductive cycles and birthing schedules. Use of handheld computers and scanners for animal inventory and herd information recording Maintenance of equipment utilized in dairy production Feed, water, and care for animals to ensure optimal growth and performance. Analyze breeding results and adjust programs to improve herd quality over time Assist in calving, feeding, and overall calf nutrition and herd health. Identify, diagnose, and treat sick cows, including treating of mastitis and other cattle diseases. Assist cows during difficult births and oversee the health of newborn calves Experience requirements: Due to the sophisticated, professional nature of the above duties, the person filling this position must hold at minimum a bachelor's degree in Animal Science , Biology, Veterinary Technology, Agricultural Science, or a closely related field. Knowledge of animal genetics, breeding techniques, and animal husbandry practices. Strong attention to detail and ability to track data accurately. Ability to work with farm management and veterinary teams to ensure the success of breeding programs. Strong communication skills for interacting with staff, management, and external suppliers/partners. We are currently looking for a permanent full-time Genetic Production Technician in our production facilities in the USA.The successful candidate would ideally live in the surrounding areas of Illinois, but foreign recruits from Mexico or Canadian Citizens are also welcome to apply as we hire through the TN Visa Program. These positions are responsible for assisting other Production Technicians in routine animal care and general farm tasks to ensure the welfare and well-being of our animals.
This position will include the following responsibilities and day-to-day functions but is not limited to:
• Work as a team player by accomplishing specific department duties and farm goals,
• Ensuring proper health, handling, and comfort of sows, gilts, and piglets, i.e.: daily health checks and monitoring/maintaining proper ventilation and temperature,
• Weigh, sort, handle and/or move pigs,
• Feed, water, vaccinate, and perform general animal husbandry tasks including basic minor maintenance tasks to ensure feed and water systems are working properly,
• Power washing empty pens and prepping rooms for animal entry,
• Keeping accurate records on all animals as requested, i.e.: pig identification,
• Working safely and wearing appropriate PPE while performing all job duties,
• Ensure the barn’s biosecurity protocol is followed by all staff and visitors,
• Assist with maintaining barn, office cleanliness, and laundry duties.
• Performing other general farm duties as required.
The successful candidate would ideally possess the following qualifications and experiences:
• Self-motivated and reliable,
• Team player,
• Outstanding organization and communication skills and demonstrates attention to detail,
• Able to manage priorities and solve problems in a fast-paced environment,
• Driver’s license,
• A college certificate or other specialized training in agriculture or livestock husbandry with 1-2 years of experience would be an asset,
• Foreign recruits are required to have an IELTS score of at least 4 in all sections of the General Module Test for English Communication
