Position Details

What You Can Expect As a Solar Technician I, you will support the operation and maintenance of solar power facilities at the Ray Ranch Solar Site located in Goliad, TX by performing entry-level technical tasks. You will assist in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining photovoltaic inverters, solar panel systems and related equipment. Your work will involve using digital tools such as SCADA, Maximo, and SAP to manage work orders, document activities, and ensure accurate reporting. You will also be a part of an on-call rotation for outages and emergencies; therefore, you must reside within 80 miles of the site. Your Daily Responsibilities Will Include, but Are Not Limited to: • Filling out permits to work, job safety plans (JSPs), lock-out tag-out (LOTO) procedures, and performing last minute risk assessments. • Under the supervision of senior level technicians, perform basic troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on photovoltaic inverters, solar panels and tracking systems, and other related solar plant equipment. • Operate standard hand tools and electrical testing equipment (e.g., screwdrivers, wrenches, battery powered drills/impacts, multimeters, amp clamps) • Complete ENGIE’s Qualified Electrical Worker Competency Skills test, which requires you to adequately demonstrate the application of safety critical tasks when working with AC/DC electricity (hot-cold-hot testing, proper PPE use, application of cluster grounds). • Understand and execute ENGIE’s official job specific documentation, such as LOTO procedures, work instructions, and routine maintenance checklists. • Create and close-out work orders generated in the Maximo system. • Conduct site safety orientations to original equipment manufacturers (OEM’s) representatives, independent service provider’s (ISP’s), vendors, and site visitors. • Accompany approved site visitors to ensure all individuals adhere to Engie’s safety and quality standards. • Perform LOTO and general supervision for non-ENGIE employees as needed. • Maintain accurate parts and tooling inventory What You’ll Bring • Minimum diploma or certification in a technical program where you have learned AC/ DC electrical theory, understand reading blue prints and schematics, industrial electrical equipment or military equivalent experience, two (2) years experience in Solar generation sites, Wind generation sites in lieu of a degree • General knowledge of AC/DC voltage, electrical theory, reading one-line and three-line schematics, and operation & maintenance of electrical equipment (e.g., AC/DC breakers, disconnects, MV transformers, NO/NC contactors, and relays) • Understanding of selecting the proper PPE for electrical work • Proficiency in reading and understanding switching orders • Obtain appropriate level of substation training and/or certifications within 12 months of hire date • Available for on-call duties as required • A willingness to work night shifts and extended hours, often outdoors in extreme heat or cold • Readiness to walk, stand, kneel, or crouch for extended periods • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. Description And Requirements If you want to shape the future of energy, we are looking for a Lead Solar Technician to join our Operations & Maintenance team! Who You Will Work With This position will involve work at multiple solar PV power plants maintaining, testing, and troubleshooting AC and DC circuits ranging from medium voltage (345kV and below) to 12VDC.  The equipment that will need to be maintained includes station service electrical equipment such as motors, and motor controls, electrical switchgear, transformers, inverters, solar PV panels, panel tracking mechanisms, electrical protective devices, main and auxiliary generators, lighting, power supplies, HVAC systems, security and battery support systems.  This position will be responsible for troubleshooting and overhauling such equipment as well as preventative and predictive maintenance activities for the afore-mentioned equipment.   The position will serve as a Lead Technician who will directly supervise day-to-day activity of the Solar Technicians (up to 10 personnel). This will involve daily scheduling of activities, support activities for the Supervisor/Manager, review/create work procedures, and support daily activities of Technicians by providing technical advice when needed. Attend meetings at the request of the local Supervisor/Manager and fill in when required. Lead Tech’s review manuals and schematic diagrams to determine the tasks, tools, equipment and parts needed and will coordinate Plan of Days, help troubleshoot complicated issues, and oversee the day-to-day operations of the technicians. Position Overview As a Solar Technician, you will be responsible for assisting in operating and maintaining the facility. Responsibilities • Perform routine mechanical and electrical maintenance on all site solar, substation, and associated equipment • Perform vegetation management, up to operating large equipment to maintain the site per the vegetation management plan. • Troubleshoot complicated electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic problems including: Inverter faults, Tracker faults, network communications, ground faults, collection issues, substation issues, and general site performance issues. • Understand electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic functions of all components of solar site and associated equipment. • Conduct site maintenance daily, wearing all required safety equipment, to inspect, maintain, and repair equipment. • The Solar Technician will work a schedule of 7:00am - 3:30pm Monday-Friday (40 hours) and will be subject to scheduled and unscheduled overtime and potential night work.
