The Building Company: Wholesale & Retail Learnership Programme 2026

Sasa-vacancies

Job Description

The Building Company, a leading giant in the South African building materials and hardware industry, is officially opening its doors for the 2026 Wholesale and Retail Operations Learnership.

This opportunity is designed specifically for the unemployed youth of South Africa who are eager to break into the retail sector, gain a formal qualification, and earn a monthly stipend while doing so.

This is not just a temporary job; it is a structured 12-month training programme that combines classroom-based theory with practical, on-the-job experience. By the end of the year, successful candidates will walk away with a National Certificate: Wholesale and Retail Operations (NQF Level 2), a qualification that is highly respected by employers across the country.

Why Choose This Learnership?

In today's competitive job market, having "experience" is often the biggest hurdle for young seekers. This programme removes that barrier by providing:

  • Formal Education: You will learn the mechanics of retail, from supply chain logistics to customer psychology.
  • Workplace Exposure: You will be placed in a live store environment, learning how to handle stock, manage inventory, and interact with professional contractors and DIY customers.
  • Financial Support: Learners receive a monthly stipend to assist with transport and basic living expenses for the duration of the 12-month contract.
What You Will Be Doing

During your 12 months with The Building Company, you will be rotated through various departments to ensure you have a well-rounded understanding of the business. Your daily tasks will include:

  • Merchandising: Ensuring that products are displayed according to store standards and that prices are correctly marked.
  • Stock Control: Assisting with the receiving of goods, stock-taking, and ensuring that the warehouse is organized and safe.
  • Customer Interaction: Learning how to provide professional advice to customers regarding building materials and hardware tools.
  • Point of Sale: Gaining experience in handling transactions and understanding the administrative side of retail operations.

The Building Company is looking for dedicated individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A valid Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.
  • Age: Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 35.
  • Status: You must be currently unemployed and not participating in any other learnership or internship.
  • Citizenship: You must be a South African citizen with a valid South African ID.
  • Location: Applications are open to residents in all provinces across South Africa.
  • Attributes: You must be hardworking, physically fit (as hardware environments involve manual labor), and have a strong desire to learn.

Important Note: The Building Company supports employment equity and encourages people with disabilities to apply. Never pay anyone for a job or a learnership placement; official applications are always free.
