NOV South Africa is seeking a Technical Procurement Specialist to join our team in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). In this role, In this role you will support various business lines to identify, shortlist, select, and acquire suitable goods or services or works from a third-party vendor through a direct purchase while ensuring timely delivery of the right quality and quantity. This role is also expected to maintain and build relationships with the existing suppliers and strategically diversify NOV's supplier base through market research. Having the technical aptitude, the technical procurement specialists ensure the conformance of goods and services with engineering specifications during the entire procurement process.

DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Work closely with the operations teams to understand details of procurement requirements and request quotes from vendors.
  • Coordinate with planning teams to gather service PO work scope, generate service POs and communicate information related to the scope and delivery terms with vendors.
  • Follow up with vendors and suppliers regarding goods and service procurement and update production teams about delivery dates changes when vendor PO due dates are rescheduled.
  • Analyse technical and commercial information from SMEs required to create vendor service POs.
  • Coordinate with the quality control department and independent verification authorities to manage inspection and witness activities at the vendor's site.
  • Determine vendors based on established criteria, negotiate the organisation's purchasing agreements/contracts, and ensure their materials and products meet the company's specifications.
  • Routinely study vendor capabilities and new vendor establishments locally and regionally.
  • Visit vendor locations to evaluate opportunities to diversify the regional vendor base.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities by comparing multiple sources based on time-studies.
  • Coordinate with all shop departments to maintain knowledge of plant operations and equipment design in order to plan effectively.
  • Research and obtain technical guidance from engineering and manufacturing experts to resolve technical questions during the procurement process.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree or diploma (3-year degree) in a related field with 5-8 years of demonstrated procurement experience.
  • Engineering degree (4-year degree) with 3-5 years of demonstrated procurement experience (Preferable).

EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated contract negotiations and procurement processes experience in a manufacturing setting. (Essential)
  • Technical procurement experience in a technological organization. (Essential)
