About the Role

Our client in the mining sector is recruiting a Technical Assurance and Risk Engineering Lead to join a major mining and mineral processing development project based in Richards Bay. This role forms part of the Owner's Engineering team and is responsible for ensuring that engineering design meets operational requirements while maintaining the highest standards of safety, risk management, and technical integrity.

The successful candidate will oversee technical assurance processes from detailed design through to construction support, ensuring the project is designed for safe construction, commissioning, operation, and long term maintenance.

Responsibilities
  • Validate that engineering design meets project and operational requirements
  • Review EPC contractor engineering deliverables with focus on safety, functionality and technical integrity
  • Lead participation in hazard studies, technical risk assessments and engineering milestone reviews
  • Manage and coordinate third party technical reviews and assessments
  • Oversee management and mitigation of critical technical and HSE risks
  • Coordinate responses to technical queries and requests for information
  • Drive value engineering opportunities and challenge unnecessary scope changes
  • Support compliance with South African Mine Health and Safety and Occupational Health and Safety legislation
  • Coordinate stakeholders across engineering, project and operational teams
  • Provide technical leadership to support safe project delivery
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Honours advantageous)
  • GCC (Mines and Works or OHS Act) strongly preferred
  • Professional registration with ECSA (PrEng) advantageous
  • Minimum 12 years' engineering experience within mining or major capital projects
  • Experience working on large-scale mining or mineral processing projects
  • Exposure to mineral sands operations (dry mining, slurry transport, processing or tailings) beneficial
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Proven ability to work within complex multidisciplinary project environments
