Job Description

The role

This is an exciting position for an inspiring, dynamic, well qualified, and highly committed graduate possessing excellent language and literary skills, capable of teaching history from year 7 to A level in a top independent school. Experience teaching politics at A Level is desirable, although not essential. The role could involve some politics teaching, but resources and support will be provided for teachers who are new to teaching the subject. We run school trips for every year group (including some international trips).

The teacher of history should make a positive contribution to good practice in the school by generating enthusiasm for the work in their department, building good relationships with colleagues, parents, and students, and by encouraging and establishing high standards in the teaching and learning of history. Participating in and running trips is expected of all members of the department. Lesson observation is encouraged as part of good practice. They should contribute fully to the development of the whole community in accordance with the aims of the school. It is hoped the successful candidate will contribute to the enrichment programme and be innovative in their approach.

The person appointed will be an excellent communicator with good leadership and inter personal skills as well as organisational skills, capable of communicating their enthusiasm for history to students and teachers alike.

This is a role is offered on a permanent basis, starting in September 2026. The salary for this position is competitive.
