POSITION: Supervisor Engineering Mechanical

JOB GRADING: C Upper

DEPARTMENT: Engineering - Reliability

SITE: South Deep Gold Mine

The Supervisor Engineering Mechanical will be responsible for pre, and post inspection and oversight of components and spares selected for reconditioning, refurbishment and/or repairs to ensure compliance with required quality standards and specifications. The incumbent will oversee the entire lifecycle of reconditioned units which includes inspection and testing from dispatch to final delivery. A core accountability of the incumbent is to apply quality assurance and quality control expertise, while maintaining the integrity and reliability of reconditioned spares and collaborating with operational teams in processing warranty claims

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Drivers' licence with no restrictions
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as an artisan in a Trackless environment
  • Minimum 2 years' supervisory experience within a mining or engineering environment
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant's suitability for employment

  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical or electrical equipment

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure health and safety of self and team members by applying relevant standards and procedures in all planning and execution of maintenance activities
  • Contribute to the culture of Zero Harm by adhering to all requirements as laid down by legislation health safety environmental security policies and procedures and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and peer groups to co-design and formulate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the inspection, testing, and reconditioning processes
  • Monitor and report on component and unit preparation, packaging and dispatching by operational teams to ensure adherence to standards and warranty initiation procedures
  • Collaboratively define and apply SOPs to guide the enforcement of defined criteria and guidelines for ensuring optimal quality standards are maintained when receiving refurbished units
  • Promote a culture of quality, compliance, training, and guidance to the team involved in the reconditioning process
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of all spares able to be reconditioned, including their history, inspections, and reconditioning activities
  • Conduct supplier audits to ensure compliance and constructively address non - conformance or quality issues
  • Initiate and drive process optimization projects to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
  • Ensure compliance towards quality management systems specifically tailored for reconditioned spares
  • Monitor, coordinate and evaluate the reconditioning process to ensure adherence to quality standards and specifications
  • Monitor and control the departmental financial budget
