Position Summary

The Human Resources (HR) Officer will be employed by Imperative South Africa and will support the Spekboom Restoration Project through the delivery of efficient and professional HR administrative and operational services. The role will provide day-to-day HR support under the functional guidance of the Human Resources Manager in the IPT.

This position is ideally suited to a highly organised, people-centred individual who enjoys HR administration, thrives in a fast-paced and growing environment, and is passionate about supporting employees throughout the employee lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

1. HR Administration & Records Management

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, personnel files, and HR databases.
  • Prepare employment contracts, employment confirmation letters, transfer letters, and other HR documentation as required.
  • Manage electronic filing systems in accordance with confidentiality and data protection requirements.
  • Track and maintain leave records, attendance data, and employee movements.
  • Assist with the administration of disciplinary, grievance, incapacity, and performance-related documentation.

2. Recruitment & Onboarding Support

  • Assist with posting job advertisements, managing responses, and screening applications.
  • Coordinate interview scheduling, prepare interview packs, and communicate with candidates.
  • Conduct reference checks and assist with background verifications where required.
  • Prepare offer letters and onboarding documentation.
  • Coordinate onboarding processes, including induction scheduling, document collection, and system access.

3. Payroll & Benefits Support

  • Collate and verify monthly payroll inputs (new appointments, terminations, changes, and leave).
  • Liaise with finance team regarding payroll-related queries.
  • Assist with benefits administration (medical aid, retirement funds, UIF, etc.).
  • Respond to routine employee payroll and benefits enquiries.

4. Employee Support & Engagement

  • Serve as a first point of contact for routine HR-related queries.
  • Provide a professional, approachable, and supportive HR service to employees.
  • Assist in coordinating training sessions, workshops, and employee engagement initiatives.

5. Compliance & Policy Support

  • Assist in ensuring HR practices align with applicable labour legislation and internal policies.
  • Support policy communication, acknowledgement, and recordkeeping processes.
  • Assist with preparation for audits or internal HR reviews.

6. General HR Support

  • Provide administrative support to the Human Resources Manager.
  • Assist with HR reporting and data compilation.
  • Participate in HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to the organisation and facilitation of project team culture programs.
  • Perform any other HR-related duties reasonably required to support the department.

Education, Knowledge & Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years' experience in an HR administrative or HR officer role.
  • Basic understanding of South African labour legislation.
  • Experience supporting recruitment and onboarding processes.
  • Exposure to payroll or HR systems advantageous.

Position Location

  • Some regional travel may be required from time to time.
