A leading engineering business within the power utilities and renewable energy sector is seeking a Senior Power Line Design Engineer (HV) to take full technical ownership of high-voltage transmission and distribution projects.
This is a senior, KPI-driven engineering role requiring proven, hands-on experience in HV power line design. The successful candidate will be responsible for end-to-end design delivery, technical leadership, and engineering support across multiple large-scale infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities & Performance IndicatorsThe role will be measured against the following role-critical KPIs:
- End-to-end design of HV power lines (132kV - 765kV)
- Delivery of accurate, high-quality engineering outputs including:
- Detailed drawings
- Technical specifications
- Design calculations
- HV line routing and tower spotting using PLSCADD
- Full compliance with local, international, and client engineering standards
- On-time delivery of complete design packages across multiple concurrent projects
- Technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior engineers and designers
- Coordination with internal teams, contractors, and external project stakeholders
- Provision of engineering support during construction, commissioning, and final handover
Candidates must meet one of the following qualification criteria:
- BSc Eng / BEng with a minimum of 7 years post-qualification experience
- BTech with a minimum of 10 years post-qualification engineering experience
- Professional registration with ECSA (Engineer or Engineering Technologist)
- 7-10 years proven experience in HV transmission and distribution projects
- Demonstrated experience within the power utility sector (Eskom exposure advantageous)
- Strong, practical experience using PLSCADD (essential)
- Own reliable transport
