Senior Lecturer(P7) / Lecturer (P8): Computer Science and Information Technology
Job Description
The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology at Sol Plaatje University seeks to appoint a senior lecturer or lecturer in Computer Sciences. The candidate will be responsible for teaching and learning, research and community engagement, and to provide support to the department/school in pursuit of its academic objectives. Responsibilities may also include curriculum development, student academic development, administration, and quality assurance to contribute to the academic initiatives undertaken by the department/school.
Minimum Requirements- MSc in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- At least two (2) years teaching experience
- Evidence of research activity
- Evidence of postgraduate supervision
- Evidence of active participation in professional, industry and/or community activities
- Evidence of competence in administration of a course/subject at departmental level
- PhD in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- At least five (5) years relevant teaching experience
- Evidence of managing a research program
- Evidence of relevant, published full-length papers in peer-reviewed scholarly journals
- Evidence of successful postgraduate supervision at master's and/or PhD level
- Evidence of successful curriculum development and academic management (not mandatory)
- Evidence of active participation in professional, industry and/or community activities
- Knowledge and experience of implementing quality assurance requirements
- Evidence of external funding or ability to apply for external funding
- Evidence of statistical competence
- Lecturer - PhD in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; at least one relevant, published full-length paper in a peer-reviewed scholarly journal
- Senior Lecturer - NRF rating or potential for a successful NRF rating application; mobilised research grant funding or have applied for research funding
- Develop and present a reflective teaching portfolio covering approach to teaching, curriculum development, learning material design, innovative pedagogy, student and junior staff mentoring, supervision of postgraduate students and formal participation in teaching and learning development courses
- Provide evidence of teaching modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and evidence of postgraduate supervision
- Demonstrate knowledge and experience in implementing quality assurance requirements
- Demonstrate ability to teach across subjects and mentor junior staff
- Participate in student and peer evaluations and showcase scholarship of teaching and learning
- Show continuous research productivity through publications in DHET accredited journals and peer-reviewed conference proceedings, and presentations at national and/or international conferences
- Contribute to scholarly books published by reputable publishers in good standing with DHET
- Manage a research program and secure external research funding
- Provide evidence of citations and an appropriate Scopus H-index
- Demonstrate potential for an NRF rating within the next five years
- Develop intervention strategies, administer attendance registers, record student results, assist with student registration, invigilate examinations and implement applicable policies and procedures
- Participate in departmental, school or faculty committees
- Contribute to quality assurance meetings and submit relevant documents
- Implement appropriate interventions and maintain personal/professional development
- Keep abreast of developments in own field, register as member of professional bodies, attend conferences and present research
- Develop relevant reports as required
- Communicate and consult with relevant stakeholders
