Senior Implementation Consultant South Africa

Deel

Job Description

Summary

We are looking for a Payroll Consultant to lead the successful implementation of clients on our Deel Local Payroll system across South Africa and the broader African region. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of payroll processes, compliance, and be able to guide Deel Local Payroll's most important clients through the critical payroll onboarding process. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that our payroll processes are efficient, compliant, and aligned with our business objectives.

What you'll do

As a Payroll Consultant for Africa, you'll lead clients through a structured payroll implementation journey. You'll assess current processes, configure Deel Local Payroll's payroll engine to align with local laws, and ensure a smooth transition to our platform. This role requires deep payroll understanding, technical aptitude, and strong client communication.

  • Regional Discovery & Needs Analysis: Engage clients to understand their current payroll systems, business structures, and compliance requirements in South Africa and other African countries. Identify gaps and opportunities to optimize payroll delivery using Deel Local Payroll.
  • Thorough Documentation: Create comprehensive documentation for requirements, configurations, and project changes. Maintain an up-to-date repository to support knowledge transfer.
  • Configure Deel Local Payroll: Translate client requirements into software configurations, customizing settings for country-specific regulations, tax laws, and benefits. Configure pay rules, earning/deduction codes, employee groups, and security roles.
  • Seamless Data Migration: Design and execute data migration strategies, cleansing and validating data for compatibility. Collaborate with client IT teams for extraction, mapping, and test migrations, overseeing the entire process.
  • Parallel Runs: Lead side-by-side payroll comparisons between the client's legacy system and Deel Local Payroll to validate accuracy. Investigate discrepancies, align input data, and ensure outputs match expected results.
  • First Live Run Support: Guide the client through their first payroll run, resolving issues in real time and ensuring compliance.
  • Manage your client portfolio to ensure timely, high-quality payroll implementations, while consistently meeting your monthly billable hours goal.
Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce (BCom), Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (Postgraduate qualification or certification like PMP is a plus).
  • 5+ years of proven experience in payroll system implementation.
  • Strong understanding of South African payroll laws and compliance standards.
  • Experience with various payroll systems and software.
  • Ability and interest in client-facing project management.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Total Rewards

Our workforce deserves fair and competitive pay that meets them where they are. With scalable benefits, rewards, and perks, our total rewards programs reflect our commitment to inclusivity and access for all.

Some things you'll enjoy
  • Stock grant opportunities dependent on your role, employment status and location.
  • Additional perks and benefits based on your employment status and country.
  • The flexibility of remote work, including optional WeWork access.
