Bau-afrika (Pty) Ltd is expanding. As a niche, independent consulting engineering practice established in 1997, we are proud to offer professional civil engineering services to a broad and loyal client base across the Western Cape and beyond. Our team is known for its specialist expertise in flood hydrology, stormwater management, and civil engineering infrastructure design and for developing innovative, practical solutions in the public and private sectors.

With a steadily growing project portfolio, including several long term, multi phase infrastructure projects, we are now looking to strengthen our management team by appointing a Senior Design Engineer with strong experience in civil infrastructure.

This is not just another engineering position. The successful candidate will play a key strategic role in the future of the firm working closely with the directors on the planning, design, and delivery of infrastructure projects, while also contributing to the leadership and direction of the practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee civil infrastructure design projects (bulk earthworks, roads, stormwater, sewer and water reticulation)
• Coordinate and manage design teams and workflows
• Engage with clients, review authorities, and other stakeholders
• Oversee quality control, costing, and technical documentation
• Contribute to internal mentoring, skills development, and knowledge sharing
• Support business development and contribute to strategic planning

Ideal Candidate Profile

• BEng/BSc Civil Engineering (PrEng or eligible for registration within 6-12 months)
• 10+ years' experience in civil infrastructure design and project delivery
• Experience with South African municipal standards and design codes
• Competence in design packages such as Civil Designer, AutoCAD Civil 3D, PCSWMM, HEC-RAS etc.
• Advantageous: Background or interest in flood hydrology, stormwater design, and hydraulic modelling
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and team leadership skills
• Strong interest in long term career growth, with a desire to be part of shaping a growing firm
