JOB DESCIRPTION:

As a projects sales engineer, you'll use your technical knowledge along with sales skills to provide advice and support on turnkey projects for materials handling systems to technical and non-technical decision makers.

Develop sales leads, qualify prospects and make sales calls face to face and online. Perform site surveys, estimate, prepare and propose consultative sales solutions to meet specific customers' needs. Maintain a close contact with existing and potential new clients.

Project sales engineers are a key point of contact for our customers and provide both pre and after-sales advice and service. You'll liaise regularly with other members of the sales team and colleagues from a range of departments such as design, production, purchasing, quality, and senior company managers. Sales Engineers are required to travel cross - border as and when needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
  • Develop the customer database with customers that may benefit from company products or services and maximize customer potential.
  • Develop long-term relationships with customers, through managing and interpreting their project requirements.
  • Sales of products and/or services that best satisfies customer needs in terms of project scope, quality, price and delivery deadlines.
  • Assist with negotiating tender and contract terms and conditions to meet both the customer and company needs.
  • Host technical presentations and demonstrate how the company product / projects and process meets the customer needs.
  • Liaise with other members of the sales team and other technical colleagues.
  • Assist in the design of custom-made products and systems.
  • Prepare costing models and mini procurement sheets.
  • Prepare the PFD's and P&ID's of the projects.
  • Prepare accurate detailed project quotes.
  • Provide pre-sales technical assistance.
  • Coordinate projects together with the project engineers.
  • Prepare the handover files and arrange the handover to the project team.
  • Work on after-sales support services and provide technical back up as required.
  • Arrange and carry out product training with site technical support team.
  • Prepare reports from time to time and keep customer records.
  • Support marketing activities by attending trade shows, conferences.
  • Meet quarterly and annual sales targets.
  • Provide training if and when needed.
ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONS:
  • Report to: Business Development Manager.
  • External: Customers, Project teams and suppliers.
  • Internal: Drawing, Purchasing, Projects and Workshop departments.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • A recognised Engineering Qualification (N3-N6) or equivalent
  • At least 5 years' experience in similar position.
  • Bulk Handling Equipment and/or Systems are an added advantage
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • A solid technical background and ability to sell it to a customer.
  • Organizational and planning skills.

  • Analytical, problem-solving and be resilient.
  • Independent and self-reliance with good interpersonal skills.
  • Assertive and have the ability to take decisions.
  • Dedicated and focused and be able to multi-task.
  • Good communicator, both verbally and in writing and with confidence at any level.
  • Sound ability to formulate costings and work out profit margins.
  • The ability to understand GA drawings and P&ID's.
  • The ability to understand and work through project tenders.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of a manufacturing business.
  • Ability to present a technical solution to a customer.
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft office applications. (Word, Excel, Outlook )
