Job Summary

As a Sales Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in driving sustainable business growth across the mining sector, covering the Gauteng, Limpopo and Northwest regions. This is a highly active, field-based role with significant engagement across mining operations, process plants and associated industrial facilities. You will be responsible for establishing and nurturing strong customer relationships, providing technical expertise, and promoting our innovative fluid management solutions within this defined territory. A key focus will be identifying and delivering self-generated growth opportunities, positioning yourself as a trusted advisor who combines technical credibility with strong commercial acumen in line with our Total Customer Solutions approach.

The role involves proactively identifying and engaging new mining customers, managing a robust pipeline of opportunities, and supporting account growth through consultative sales practices. You will regularly conduct on-site visits, product demonstrations and technical discussions to showcase the value and performance of our solutions in demanding mining environments.

Success in this position requires a high level of autonomy, resilience and comfort working extensively in the field, with regular travel across the three regions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Account Management: Establish and maintain a sustainable pipeline of potential opportunities by growing key customers and high-growth industries within the designated sector.
  • Business Development: Identify and engage potential customers through research, networking, and industry events, promoting the full range of Watson Marlow products.
  • Customer Partnering: Act as a trusted advisor for existing customers, offering technical expertise and building long term relationships by understanding customer needs, troubleshooting issues, and providing proactive recommendations to enhance system performance.
  • Managing Sales Leads: Take ownership of sales leads and inquiries, providing tailored quotations and ensuring timely follow ups.
  • Allocating Workload Strategically: Strategically allocate workload across EMEA support functions to free capacity for high impact commercial initiatives.
  • Demonstrating Products: Proactively visit customers and attend exhibitions showcasing Watson Marlow products through on site or virtual demonstrations, highlighting features, benefits, and real world applications.
  • Researching Trends: Research competitor, market, and industry trends; engage in ongoing professional development to stay at the forefront of industry advancements; share insights and best practices with global colleagues to enhance collective success.
  • Utilising CRM Tools: Use CRM tools to track and manage leads, ensuring consistent follow ups and progression through the sales funnel, and deliver accurate and timely forecasts to support sustainable business growth.
  • Driving Total Customer Solutions: Adopt the Total Customer Solutions drive by utilising consultative sales skills and acting as a true 'partner' to the key customer base.
  • Championing Core Values: Champion core values, fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, customer focus, excellence, and respect across teams to deliver exceptional results.
Skills / Experience
  • Mechanical, Electrical or aligned technical qualification (minimum National Diploma, NQF6) is required. A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline would be advantageous.
  • At least 5 years' technical sales experience within the mining sector, selling engineered or process equipment solutions.
  • Experience with positive displacement (PD) pumps and broader process industry exposure would be advantageous.
  • Proven sales track record, with the ability to develop new business opportunities while managing and growing an existing customer base within mining or related process industries.
  • Strong entrepreneurial capability is essential, including strategic decision making, problem solving, commercial judgement and the ability to work self supervised.
  • Face to face interaction is essential for effective customer partnership, therefore a valid Code 8 driver's licence and willingness to travel extensively across the designated territory is required.
  • Excellent communication skills, a positive and dynamic attitude, and the ability to build strong, long term customer relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and CRM systems.
