Job Description
Department: Respiratory Therapy
Schedule: Full-Time Night Shift (e.g., 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM)
Reports To: Director of Cardio/Pulmonary
The Respiratory Therapist provides comprehensive respiratory care to patients across multiple departments during the night shift. This role is responsible for assessing, treating, and monitoring patients with cardiopulmonary disorders while ensuring safe, effective, and timely care. The Respiratory Therapist works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to support optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities:- Assess, treat, and monitor patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary conditions
- Administer respiratory therapies, medications, and oxygen treatments as ordered
- Manage ventilators and assist with airway management
- Respond to emergency situations, including rapid responses and codes
- Perform arterial blood gas draws and interpret results
- Document patient care accurately and timely in the medical record
- Educate patients and families regarding respiratory treatments
- Maintain and operate respiratory therapy equipment according to safety standards
- Provide coverage to areas such as Med-Surg, ICU, ER, and Nursery as needed
- Credentialed Respiratory Therapist through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) (RRT or CRT)
- Active Mississippi Respiratory Care license (or eligibility to obtain)
- Current BLS certification required
- ACLS and NRP certifications preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- Previous hospital or acute care experience preferred
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
