Resident Engineer-Bridges - Durban

Responsible for providing senior technical leadership and quality oversight of structural engineering works on site, ensuring all construction activities comply with contractual requirements, design specifications, and applicable standards. The role involves coordinating multidisciplinary teams, representing the Engineer in technical and contractual matters, managing construction risk, and supporting programme control and payment certification to deliver structurally sound projects safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.

Travel or Relocation Required?

• Both can work, but travel to and from work is restricted to a maximum of 50km/day.
• Travel on site for work purposes is reimbursable at V3 rates.
• Travel from site to home and back to site over a paid weekend is reimbursable at V3 rates.

Working Hours/Schedule:

Working hours: Monday to Friday 07h00 to 17h00. Saturday-07h00 to 13h00.

Lead and enforce project-specific Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Construction Quality Plans for structural works, ensuring full compliance with contract conditions, drawings, specifications, and applicable codes and standards.

Provide senior technical oversight of all structural construction activities, including inspections, testing, setting out, concrete works, steelwork, and workmanship, to ensure structural integrity and compliance.

Direct and coordinate site supervision teams, contractors, and external testing agencies to deliver structural works safely, accurately, and in accordance with approved methodologies.

Act as the Engineer's Representative for structural engineering matters, liaising with designers, contractors, and the client to resolve complex design, technical, and construction issues.

Monitor construction programmes, assess contractor claims, support interim payment certification, and manage risk mitigation and reporting through to successful project completion.

B Eng Civil / BSc Eng Civil / B Tech Eng C

Professional Registration(s): Pr Eng / Pr Tech Eng

Years of Relevant Experience: Minimum 15 yrs in the role of RE (Structures)
