Job Description

Remote Freelance Copywriter (Integrated Hybrid Build-Out Role) Please include a portfolio link on your CV.

Contract 4-29 May for R49,523 before tax.

Monday to Friday from 09:00 - 17:00. Normal business hours.

This role sits between concept and execution - bridging the gap between initial creative thinking and final rollout through language.

While executional writing is part of the role, the work is more layered in practice. You will be involved in shaping campaign narratives, developing messaging where inputs are limited or unclear, and translating ideas into cohesive, channel-specific copy.

This is not a pure content or production writing role. It requires a hybrid mindset - someone who can think, solve, structure, and write across multiple stages of the creative process.

Role Purpose

To support and strengthen campaign delivery by:

  • Developing messaging and narrative where direction is incomplete
  • Translating ideas into clear, compelling copy systems
  • Ensuring consistency of voice and message across channels
  • Bridging the gap between strategy, concept, and execution through language
Key Responsibilities Concept & Narrative Development
  • Contribute to campaign thinking and shape presentation narratives
  • Develop messaging territories, headlines, and campaign directions from limited input
  • Help define tone of voice and storytelling frameworks for campaigns
Copywriting & Build-Out

Write copy across multiple formats:

  • Take loosely defined ideas and build them into clear, structured messaging systems
  • Adapt and evolve messaging as campaigns develop

  • Solve for gaps in messaging, structure, or conceptual direction
  • Translate complex or incomplete briefs into actionable creative outputs
  • Ensure copy works effectively across platforms and formats
  • Adapt messaging for different environments while maintaining consistency
  • Bridge the gap between concept decks and real-world communication
  • Work closely with Art Directors, Designers, and Strategy teams
  • Co develop ideas as part of a creative team (copy + art direction)
  • Present and articulate ideas internally and to clients
What This Role Is (and Isn't)

This role is:

  • A hybrid between conceptual copywriting, build out, and execution
  • A problem solving role within the creative process
  • A bridge between idea and final communication

This role is not:

  • Pure content writing or blog writing
  • A role where messaging is fully defined upfront
  • Limited to execution only
Requirements Ideal Candidate
  • Strong conceptual copywriter with strategic thinking ability
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and incomplete briefs
  • Able to move between big ideas and detailed execution
  • Experienced in writing across multiple channels
  • Strong understanding of tone, voice, and audience
  • Able to collaborate closely with designers and art directors
Key Skills
  • Conceptual Copywriting
  • Campaign Messaging Development

Summary

This is a hands on, hybrid copywriting role for someone who thrives in the space between idea and execution - shaping, structuring, and delivering work when things aren't always fully defined.

Portfolio link required on your CV (a creative CV or résumé without a portfolio link is worthless).
