Job Description
A vacancy exists for a Registered Nurse Theatre Qualified based at Life Fourways Hospital, reporting to Melody Bedingfield, Theatre Unit Manager. The successful candidate will assist the surgical team to perform surgical procedures and ensure patients receive optimal care in accordance with company and hospital strategic objectives.
Critical Outputs- Ensuring effective financial management by managing theatre clocking time.
- Ensuring consignment stock, equipment and prosthesis is charged according to policy.
- Managing stock by participating in regular stock taking and controlling the consignment stock in accordance with hospital policy.
- Ensuring the correct use of theatre equipment and instrumentation by educating and supervising staff on the correct utilization of the equipment.
- Obtaining the correct information pre operatively and visiting the patient post operatively.
- Ensuring that the patient is comfortable and assisting the doctor during the surgical procedure.
- Providing theatre specific training and assessing the competence of staff.
- Assisting the Unit Manager to correctly monitor the normal and overtime hours.
- Ensuring the theatre team works according to the scope of practice.
- Giving feedback to the unit manager to assess optimal performance.
- Ensuring the use of personal protective clothing and complying with ISO requirements.
- Ensuring the disposal of medical waste to effectively control infection.
- Attending review and consultative form meetings to maintain healthy internal relationships.
- Maintaining a healthy relationship with external stakeholders by reporting and escalating unresolved issues to the unit manager.
- Degree or Diploma in nursing.
- Certified qualification in operating theatres.
- Current registration with SANC.
- Relevant experience in nursing to meet the critical outputs.
- Experience in major Orthopedic, Vascular, Gynae and General Surgery is mandatory.
- Ability to work in all other Surgical Disciplines.
- Understanding of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role players would be an advantage.
- Computer proficiency.
- Driver's license and ability to travel.
- Hours of duty will be planned according to the needs of the unit.
- Must be willing to fulfil a role in the unit according to the flexi hours system and call system.
- Strong interpersonal skills required.
- Must be able to work under pressure in a continuously changing environment.
- Computer proficiency would be an advantage.
