Position Overview

The Project Supervisor oversees SMPP construction operations on site, ensuring compliance with safety standards and statutory regulations. Responsibilities include managing contractors, safety compliance, construction activities, coordinating with design teams, and supervising commissioning activities. The role requires strong safety leadership, sound technical problem solving skills, effective communication, and a strong focus on quality assurance. Experience in mining construction, adherence to safety protocols, and leadership ability are essential.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide regular progress updates to the Project Manager.
  • Oversee and coordinate all SMPP contractors on site, ensuring adherence to safety standards, project specifications, and timelines.
  • Ensure effective implementation and ongoing compliance with Mine Health and Safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with construction regulations.
  • Work closely with design contractors to ensure technical accuracy and integrity of installations.
  • Assist in developing project scopes of work.
  • Apply strong technical problem solving skills to site challenges.
  • Supervise commissioning activities.
  • Manage on site communication effectively.
  • Maintain site documentation in accordance with Tronox Namakwa Sands procedures (e.g. daily logs, risk assessments).
  • Implement and manage quality assurance processes, including inspections and compliance verification.
  • Measure project progress and provide feedback.
  • Assist with project planning and scheduling to ensure timely completion of construction activities and milestones.
Qualifications & Experience
  • A recognized Trade Test Certificate or equivalent qualification, including N3 Technical Certificate with mathematics and science, or a higher level of education
  • Well versed in the reading and interpretation of engineering drawings
  • Previous experience in construction within the mining sector, specifically under the Mine Health and Safety Act, is highly desirable
  • 3 to 5 years of hands on experience in mechanical construction or heavy plant operations within a mining environment.
  • Code B driver's license.

  • Proven track record in implementing and enforcing safety protocols, with specific emphasis on mining safety standards.
  • Highly self motivated with a proactive approach.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction activities, heavy plant operations, and mining construction methodologies.
