Job Description
Our client in the Mining sector is looking for a Project Manager with extensive Underground Gold Mining project experience for a contracting role. A Mechanical Engineering Degree coupled with at least 5 years experience in managing large scale Gold mining projects is essential to be considered for this role. Qualifications, professional registrations and Experience- BEng / BSc Mechanical Engineering (Essential)
- GCC Mines & Works (Highly Advantageous)
- PMP / PRINCE2 Certification (Advantageous)
- Registration with ECSA (Preferred)
- Minimum 8-12 years' experience in gold mining
- Minimum 5 years underground experience (deep-level gold preferred)
- Experience managing multi-million Rand CAPEX projects
- Proven experience in:
- Underground mechanical installations
- FAT and commissioning
- Contractor and OEM management
- Mining production environments
- Experience working in high-risk operational environments
- Lead mechanical workstreams within underground projects
- Align mechanical deployment plans with master project schedule
- Ensure scope control and change management discipline
- Oversee mechanical risk identification and mitigation
- Develop detailed mechanical deployment plans
- Integrate mechanical sequencing into overall programme plan
- Track delivery milestones (FAT, SAT, commissioning, handover)
- Report mechanical readiness to Steering Committees
- Oversee mechanical installations underground
- Ensure compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA)
- Validate mechanical installation quality and adherence to design
- Participate in site inspections underground
- Supervise commissioning processes
- Verify readiness for go-live
- Ensure defects are logged, tracked and resolved.
- Manage mechanical OEM relationships
- Oversee FAT and technical validation
- Ensure contractors comply with site safety and performance standards
- Attend and approve FAT sessions
- Review mechanical drawings and technical submissions
- Monitor installation productivity and quality
- Escalate non-performance issues
- Ensure adherence to governance and stage-gate processes
- Maintain audit-ready engineering documentation
- Ensure mechanical CAPEX spend aligns to approved budgets
- Maintain mechanical risk registers
- Provide forecast-to-complete reporting
- Ensure all installations meet regulatory and internal compliance requirements
- Engage Mine Managers, Engineers, Ventilation Officers and Operations
- Ensure mechanical solutions are fit-for-purpose
- Align engineering execution with mining production constraints
- Facilitate cross-functional coordination sessions
- Provide executive updates on mechanical readiness
- Resolve operational constraints impacting deployment
- Deep-level gold mining operational environment
- Mechanical systems underground (winches, pumping systems, ventilation interfaces, heavy equipment installation)
- MHSA compliance requirements
- Commissioning and handover protocols
- Project lifecycle management
