IntroductionOverall responsibility for the successful project management of various MV and HV cable turnkey projects including the overall management, supervision and motivation of office staff, site personnel and subcontractors, located on multiple construction sites in order to complete the design, supply, installation, commissioning, testing, handover and maintenance of various cable systems. Manage contracts in line with Commercial Contracts (NEC, FIDIC, GCC) and in a cost effective manner, meeting completion dates and ensuring quality of work without compromise on safety. Effective management of sales and costs and ensure delivery on time in accordance with the project plan. Effective management and responsibility of health, safety and environmental matters. Active pursuit of PI business development and nurturing and maintaining good customer relations.
1. TURNKEY CONTRACT, MAINTENANCE AND ASSESSMENT WORK- Overall responsibility for and management of MV and HV cable installation projects, in collaboration with the Operations Manager/ Regional Project Manager in line with company and PI Procedures.
- Ensure that the sales budget and profits are met and exceeded. Effective cost management is essential.
- Management of multiple construction sites and/or maintenance and assessment work in region/area of responsibility as assigned.
- Ensure complete familiarity and understanding of all project documentation, company procedures, contract documents and tenders as submitted.
- Co ordinate Construction Supervisors and/or subordinates in the following tasks:
- Planning: Project, safety, site work and sub contractors.
- Site establishment.
- Control of civil contractors and subordinates and implementation of issued instructions.
- Installation of cable and associated equipment to the contract requirements and including pulling of cable.
- Labour and material requirements.
- Monitoring and controlling of site security.
- Fluid filled cable maintenance work and circuit assessments when required.
- Responsible for final testing, commissioning and hand over of contracts.
- Control efficiency by monitoring site supervision, labour, transport and equipment.
- Audit personnel according to pre determined training criteria.
- Actively market Power Installations capabilities to the market place and secure work in the fields of maintenance and turnkey work.
- Provide head office with tender pricing from preferred sub contractors.
- Develop and maintain key customer and subcontractor relationships in region of responsibility.
- Monitor and check contract related documentation (including invoicing).
- Management of the PI performance financial targets and associated reporting.
- Develop, Monitor and check Microsoft Projects installation programmes as forwarded by Contracts Supervisors.
- Check and monitor Weekly time sheets.
- Know and understand all the relevant Quality and safety management systems and procedures.
- Environmental management, systems contract requirements.
- Recruit and select personnel as defined in the recruitment procedure.
- Motivate subordinates through participation in decisions and communication regarding matters that concern them.
- Develop personnel by improving their knowledge, attitudes and skills through training, job rotation, appraisals or performance and potential in accordance with the training procedure.
- Ensure and or conduct disciplinary and grievance hearings in accordance with procedure and policies.
- Advise managers of staff making good progress and being possible promotion potential.
- Implement QA procedures and make use of resources in order to achieve and maintain the specified quality.
- Encourage quality awareness for work among the personnel in the section with appropriate instructions, communications and training in accordance with procedure.
- Continuously monitor the quality of processes and systems by means of analysis and initiate and verify corrective and preventative action if required.
- Implement documentation of the quality management system within scope of control.
- Overall responsibility in terms of site personnel and safe working practices on multiple sites.
- Direct the work force in safe working practices and housekeeping as laid down in the Construction Regulations code of practice, the OHS Act and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
- Continuously upgrade subordinates safety, health and environmental awareness and competence through training as per the training procedure.
- Investigate safety, health and environmental related issues in terms of the NOSA MBO code and ISO 14001 to prevent future accidents / incidents.
- Implement the documentation of the Environmental management system scope of control.
- Control contracts / projects and office expense budgets and ensure that expenses are within agreed tolerance limits of the budget.
- Continuously monitor material wastage, scrap and assets and reduce cost by implementing cost cutting techniques.
- Monitor performance and costs of sub-contractors.
- Provide key regional input for annual budget compilation.
- Responsible for meeting annual budget targets for region.
- Attend site meetings if required.
- Check and sign off site prepared work summary sheets.
- Liaise with head office with regard to site operations.
- Report writing and Power Point presentations.
- Necessary health and safety.
- B Tech or BSc Electrical Engineering
- Registration with ECSA and SACPCMP will be advantageous
- 2-4 years Project Management experience in Construction Projects pertaining to Electric underground cable installations (MV and/or HV)
- Design, Supply, Installation, Commissioning, Testing, and/or Maintenance experience in Electrical cable systems
- Contract management experience will be advantageous (FIDIC, NEC, GCC)
- Not limited to work on Projects in Cape Region only and must be prepared to work in other regions in South Africa and in Africa as may be required depending on awarded Projects
- Experience in Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel
- Experience in Microsoft Projects and PowerPoint
- Must be capable of report writing and conducting Presentations
