PRODUCTION REPAIR TECHNICIAN

REPORT TO: Head of Production and Testing
KEY PURPOSE OF JOBThe Production Repair Technician will be responsible for diagnosing, testing, and repairing advanced electronic and electromechanical systems down to component level. This includes identifying faults, performing root cause analysis, and generating detailed technical reports. The role requires strong analytical skills, hands on troubleshooting expertise, and a high level of precision to support product reliability, continuous improvement, and customer satisfaction.
KEY TASKS- Perform advanced fault-finding and troubleshooting of electronic and electromechanical assemblies down to component level.
- Use test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multi meters, spectrum analysers, logic analysers, and other diagnostic tools.
- Interpret electronic circuit diagrams, schematics, and mechanical drawings.
- Conduct failure analysis and root cause investigations on returned or failed products.
- Document findings in clear, structured technical reports with corrective and preventive action recommendations.
- Assist engineering teams with product validation, design feedback, performance feedback and process improvements.
- Support environmental, stress, and reliability testing when required.
- Maintain accurate test logs and data records.
- Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and ESD standards.
- National Diploma / Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering (Light Current), Mechatronics, or equivalent technical qualification.
- Proven experience in electronic troubleshooting and repair to component level (minimum 5 years).
- Strong knowledge of analogue and digital electronics, power supplies, sensors, and microcontroller based systems.
- Hands on experience with electromechanical systems (motors, actuators, precision mechanisms).
- Proficiency with test equipment (oscilloscope, function generator, power supply, spectrum analyser, logic analyser etc.).
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with attention to detail.
- Skilled in generating structured root cause analysis (RCA) reports and failure investigation documentation.
- Ability to work independently as well as in cross functional engineering teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in aerospace, defence, medical, or other high tech industries.
- Knowledge of reliability testing methods (thermal, vibration, HALT/HASS).
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality standards.
- IPC J-STD & Space Addendum trained.
- Carry out rework, soldering, and component replacement on PCBs to IPC standards.
- Methodical, detail oriented, and precise.
- Strong ownership and accountability mindset.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Continuous learner with a drive for technical excellence.
