Our client is seeking a Production Line Supervisor based in Cape Town, Western Cape, within the Manufacturing industry. This role focuses on leading daily production operations to ensure safe operations, on-time delivery, required production volumes, quality compliance, and cost control within a high-volume manufacturing environment.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Qualification in Operations Management, Production Management, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering - Essential

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in high volume manufacturing
  • Minimum 2 years' experience supervising production teams
  • Proven experience managing production targets, labour planning, and workflow control
  • Technical or trade qualification - Advantageous
  • Experience in press, plating, or automated manufacturing environments - Advantageous

Technical Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong understanding of production planning, workflow control, and throughput optimisation
  • Knowledge of OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and efficiency improvement
  • Experience working with ERP systems and production reporting systems
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) compliance
  • Sound knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles, 5S, and waste reduction
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations
Key Responsibilities

Production Performance & Target Achievement

  • Execute daily production plans to meet hourly, daily, and weekly output targets
  • Monitor line performance and implement immediate corrective action
  • Identify bottlenecks and optimise labour and equipment utilisation
  • Drive recovery plans when production targets are missed
  • Ensure correct staffing levels and shift coverage
  • Record and report accurate production data

Quality Assurance & ISO Compliance

  • Ensure components are produced to specification first time
  • Enforce compliance with the Quality Management System
  • Stop defects at source and drive root cause analysis
  • Manage scrap reduction and rework control
  • Ensure proper identification, labelling, and traceability

Maintenance & Equipment Reliability

  • Ensure operator care and basic machine maintenance is completed
  • Report breakdowns immediately and coordinate with Maintenance
  • Support TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) and preventative maintenance activities
  • Minimise downtime and improve equipment efficiency

Staff Supervision & Discipline

  • Lead, direct, and supervise operators and team members
  • Set daily performance standards and expectations
  • Coach, train, and develop employees
  • Manage attendance, absenteeism, and discipline in line with company procedures
  • Ensure adequate skills coverage and cross-training

Stock & System Control

  • Maintain ERP and production system accuracy
  • Control work orders and material flow
  • Manage WIP (Work in Progress) levels
  • Ensure scrap and rejects are processed correctly
  • Support inventory accuracy

Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement

  • Implement and sustain 5S and housekeeping standards
  • Use visual management tools
  • Identify and eliminate waste
  • Drive daily productivity and cost improvement initiatives

Shopfloor Leadership & Daily Operations

  • Conduct shift start-up meetings
  • Allocate work and resources effectively
  • Perform line walkabouts and troubleshoot production issues
  • Liaise with Quality, Maintenance, and Planning teams
  • Report daily results and elevate risks early

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce safe work procedures and PPE compliance
  • Ensure compliance with legal and company safety standards
  • Act immediately on hazards and incidents
  • Promote safe behaviours and accountability
