Overview

Position for a Porter at Life St George's Hospital, Baobab Ward, reporting to Unit Manager Muraleedharan Nair.

Responsibilities
  • Assist and transport patients by wheelchair, stretcher, patient vehicle to and from various destinations within the hospital, e.g., wards, treatment areas, operating theatre.
  • Assist patients requiring discharge support from nursing unit or treatment area to hospital exit/vehicle.
  • Sort and deliver incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Collect and deliver prescription charts, credits and medication between pharmacy, wards and theatre.
  • Move furniture, stores and medical equipment safely.
  • Transfer files, specimen samples and pharmacy boxes to different areas within the hospital.
  • Move cylinders of gas within the hospital.
  • Give directions to customers (wards, departments, doctors' rooms, etc.).
  • Perform general administrative and related duties as requested.
Requirements
  • Matric or equivalent.
  • Physically fit, able to lift heavy boxes, with energy and stamina.
  • Experience in customer service or dealing with customers.
  • Experience in healthcare is an advantage.
  • Able to work in a team.
  • Responsible, meticulous and efficient.
  • Good time management and ability to work under pressure, independently and in a team.
  • Ability to work shifts on a rotational basis.
