Job Description

Kendrick Recruitment is seeking a talented and creative Senior Pastry Chef for a luxury lodge in the Kruger National Park. This role is ideal for a passionate culinary professional who specialises in baked goods and desserts and thrives in a high-standard, fast-paced kitchen environment. The successful candidate will oversee the pastry section, ensuring exceptional quality, creativity, and consistency in all pastry and dessert offerings.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and bake a variety of pastries, breads, cakes and desserts daily
  • Create visually appealing and delicious baked goods using advanced decorating techniques
  • Experiment with new recipes and techniques to enhance menu offerings
  • Oversee and manage the pastry section, ensuring smooth workflow and efficiency
  • Maintain stock control of baking ingredients and place orders as required
  • Minimise waste and manage ingredient usage to optimise food costs
  • Adhere to strict food safety and hygiene standards
  • Ensure all ingredients are correctly stored and labelled
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the pastry section and equipment
  • Ensure consistency in taste, texture and presentation of all pastry items
  • Develop and refine recipes to meet high-quality standards
  • Present pastries attractively for display and service
  • Work closely with chefs and kitchen staff to coordinate food preparation
  • Train and mentor junior pastry chefs and kitchen assistants
  • Provide guidance on baking techniques and decorating methods
  • Modify recipes to cater to dietary requirements, including gluten-free or vegan options
  • Keep up to date with industry trends and introduce innovative flavours and techniques
  • Design and develop new pastry and dessert menu items
Skills & Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a Senior Pastry Chef, Pastry Chef, Baker, or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and decorating methods
  • Creativity and strong attention to detail in food presentation
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Team player with strong communication and leadership abilities
Experience & Education
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in a senior pastry role
  • Diploma or certification in Culinary Arts preferred
