Simera Sense is seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on individual to join our team in Somerset West as a Parts Preparation Technician. In this essential role, you will support the production of cutting-edge optical payloads for small satellites by ensuring that all components are meticulously prepared, cleaned, and ready for assembly. Job Purpose

Ensure the meticulous inspection, cleaning, and preparation of mechanical components for space applications, supporting the assembly and integration of high-quality optical systems.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance parts preparation processes.
  • Assist engineers with the detailed integration of space-borne optical systems.
  • Provide support during the assembly, integration, and testing phases of optical payloads.
  • Perform detailed inspection of all mechanical components received, comparing measurements to engineering drawings.
  • Complete incoming inspection documentation, ensuring all data, measurement reports, and related documents are accurately stored.
  • Conduct meticulous cleaning of all received mechanical parts for use in space applications.
  • Assist with masking, painting, and demasking of relevant mechanical components.
  • Execute various part preparation procedures on mechanical and optical components.
  • Ensure all prepared parts meet the required quality standards for space applications.
  • Identify and report any inconsistencies or defects in parts and components.
  • Complete work instructions, test reports, and other production documentation for all tasks performed.
  • Maintain detailed production documentation of all measurement and process results.
Required Qualifications

Higher Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Required Experience

Good mechanical knowledge and understanding of technical drawings

Recommendations
  • National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Previous experience working in a high-precision mechanical field is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with mechanical component inspection and acceptance.
  • Formal education/ short course/ training on technical drawings will be advantageous.
Special requirements

Will be required to work overtime.
