Time Commitment This is a non-executive, voluntary role. Board members are expected to attend approximately four Board meetings per year, participate in appropriate Board committees, and allocate sufficient time to prepare for meetings and contribute to strategic discussions, as required.
Travel Requirements Limited travel may be required to attend Board meetings, strategic sessions, or key organisational events. Meetings may be held in person or virtually.
CONTEXTSANCCOB NPC is seeking to appoint a commercially astute and growth-oriented Non-Executive Director to join its Board of Directors. We are specifically seeking a seasoned business leader, ideally a former Chief Executive Officer or senior executive with a strong commercial background and proven experience leading organisations with an annual turnover exceeding R50 million. This individual will strategically guide and support the Chief Executive Officer to drive sustainable organisational growth, strengthen commercial strategy, and expand strategic partnerships.
This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the advancement and growth, strategic direction, and governance of a globally respected organisation at the forefront of seabird conservation in southern Africa. The position is open to South African citizens residing in South Africa.
THE POSITION:As a voluntary member of SANCCOB's Board, you will contribute expertise to guide SANCCOB's long-term sustainability, strategic oversight, and effective governance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:- Provide commercial leadership and oversight at Board level.
- Contribute to strategic planning aligned to sustainable revenue growth, diversification, and financial resilience objectives.
- Support the Chief Executive Officer in scaling organisational impact.
- Identify and facilitate high-value strategic partnerships and act as an ambassador for the organisation with external partners and stakeholders to advance the mission.
- Provide strategic guidance to strengthen governance, risk management, and fiduciary oversight.
- Interpret financial performance and market positioning to guide Board decisions.
- Identify opportunities for expansion, partnerships, and innovation, to advance the mission.
- Uphold transparent, ethical, and effective governance practices.
- Participate in Board meetings, committees and key strategic deliberations.
- Proven commercial leadership experience in an organisation with an annual turnover exceeding R50 million.
- Former Chief Executive Officer or senior executive experience.
- Demonstrated experience in organisational growth and scaling impact.
- Track record of establishing and leveraging strategic partnerships.
- Board Director experience with strong governance understanding.
- Financial acumen and ability to interpret performance metrics and growth indicators.
- Strong understanding of King IV principles.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to provide independent, ethical judgement at Board level.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with fellow Directors and to support the Chief Executive Officer.
- Demonstrated commitment to conservation values and stewardship.

REMUNERATION:This is a voluntary, non-executive role and is not remunerated. SANCCOB will reimburse reasonable travel and related expenses incurred while fulfilling Board responsibilities, in line with organisational policy.
