The role:

The Mining Activity Engineer reports to the Section Manager Planning.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
  • Compiling designs, detailed plans and short-term schedules for major mining activities on the mine
  • Compiling of weekly/monthly/quarterly and annual reconciliations as part of compliance to plan reporting
  • Supply required information for weekly marketing and management plans
  • Assist in compiling weekly review (planning) meetings presentation(s), as well as the monthly planning meeting
  • Liaising with other Activity Engineers with regards to integration of mine plans
  • Liaising with various other departments including, but not limited, Survey, Geology, Environmental, Mining, Metallurgy and Engineering
  • Assist with annual budget/LOM process
Requirements: Qualification:
  • National Diploma / Degree in Mining Engineering OR
  • Relevant Opencast mining qualifications WITH recognition and recommendation for prior learning and experience
Experience:
  • Minimum 6 years' mining experience with 2 years appointed in a relevant mining production environment appointed as a supervisor OR 2 years relevant experience as Planning Officer
  • Experience with Mine Planning software including, but not limited to, 3D-dig, Microstation, Dragsim, Deswik
  • Experience in assessing management principles around mining and related equipment and associated operational standards and philosophies
  • Experience in relevant opencast mining areas (mine pit design, activity design drill & blast, pre-stripping, dragline, truck & shovel, coaling , scheduling, machine performance)
  • An appreciation of legislation relating to the mining industry, as well as applicable procedures
  • Ability to work under pressure and variable workload
  • Good analytical capabilities
  • Financial budgeting skills
  • Good communication (verbal and written) skills
  • A high regard for safety
  • Computer literacy and working knowledge of Microsoft Office package (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Valid driver's license and own transport
  • In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
Advantageous:
  • Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency
