Job Description

Responsibilities
  • Acting as the mechanical technical authority for all plant machinery.
  • Managing and ensuring compliance with all mechanical statutory requirements for the assigned plant.
  • Providing technical data, insights, and support to the maintenance execution team.
  • Executing complex maintenance activities and managing contractors involved in these tasks.
  • Serving as the first point of contact during breakdowns to diagnose issues and guide corrective actions.
  • Troubleshooting plant issues using technical drawings, P&IDs, and other documentation.
  • Ensuring adherence to engineering standards during all maintenance activities.
  • Supporting the planning department with technical input on routine and shutdown maintenance activities.
  • Managing repairable and non-repairable spare parts per RACI defined processes, including quality checks.
  • Overseeing specific mechanical maintenance service contracts in the plant.
  • Leading analysis and action plans arising from condition based monitoring reports, collaborating closely with the condition monitoring team.
  • Managing operational risks associated with equipment defects and maintaining the mill equipment risk list.
  • Identifying and implementing small scale technical improvement projects aimed at extending equipment life.
  • Auditing the quality of service provided by the Central Maintenance Services department.
  • Auditing the quality of maintenance performed by centralised teams (e.g., hydraulics and rolls).
  • Ensuring that all plant and equipment are maintained in the required condition.
  • Providing direct support and setting standards for maintenance execution quality within the plant.
  • Managing plant technical documentation per RACI defined procedures.
  • Supporting the Maintenance Manager in ensuring compliance with all mill asset care procedures, especially Work Order, Technical Change, and Shutdown Management processes.
  • Supporting the central Engineering department in RCFA investigations and other technical processes.
  • Identifying improvement opportunities and sources of loss to support central Engineering's continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contributing to the development of mill specific engineering standards.
Your Profile
  • National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3-5 years' experience in a maintenance or engineering role within heavy industry.
  • 1-3 years' experience as a Mechanical Technician in the Pulp & Paper industry will be an advantage.
  • Strong experience in the following core engineering processes:
    • Maintenance quality management
    • Shutdown planning and execution
    • Budgeting and cost control
    • Contractor management
    • Fault finding and troubleshooting using structured problem solving tools
