Job Description

Preparation of planned maintenance strategy for African Cables Limited.Co-ordination between the various functional disciplines and maintenance disciplines at African Cables Limited.Preparation of maintenance plan for African Cables.Maintain quality assurance system and documentation applicable to this function (project and vendor).Maintain information on SAPUse Condition Monitoring programs to decrease maintenance expense, increase machine reliability and availability and to enhance product quality and extend the life of machine equipment.Enforce compliance to the NOSA MBO system and OHS Act.

PLANNED MAINTENANCE

Develops maintenance and preventive maintenance methodologies to meet technological advancements and improve machine utilisation.

Develops and implements preventive maintenance inspection and maintenance programs.

Reviews and conducts economic analyses to determine both scope and frequency of preventive maintenance programs

Develops and implements policy governing the engineering and plant maintenance, by setting and implementing objectives and considering timetables, cost efficiencies, contingencies, available resources, technical research, and computer data

Conducts studies on the planning and scheduling of engineering, plant maintenance, services, prepares comprehensive recommendations on the most cost-effective staffing, frequency and scope of program to protect and maintain African Cables plant machinery and equipment.

Develops and co-ordinates with the technicians and section leaders planning of the work, specific job definitions and parameters, beginning and completion dates, priorities, and method(s) to accomplish the work as well as the allocation of labour to the technicians from the labour pool.

Reviews completed work to ensure it has been carried out according to their descriptions, plans, specifications, and time parameter and budget allotment including in-house staff or contractors.

Develops a maintenance standards procedure manual.

Assists in developing standard procedures, forms, and methods required to be followed by departments requesting alterations, renovations, area reconstruction, or general repair maintenance.

CONTRACTS

Develops contract specifications for maintenance service contracts; i.e., machining, mechanical equipment, forklift trucks, safety and fire protection systems, and other specialized services

Co-ordination with the Logistics Department in the development of contract specifications for maintenance and service contracts covering the above.

Maintains professional co-operative working relationships with representatives of organizations doing business with African Cables Limited

Makes timely decisions to ensure compliance with organization objectives and policies by integration of thought, attention to details, priority ordering, and the consideration of operations research, information systems, cost factors, resources, and a logical decision making process

Aligns organizational goals, timetables, resources, and specific planning factors as they are found in or apply to the key result area of engineering and plant maintenance

Evaluates programs for cost-effectiveness and maintains comprehensive records and data for all preventive maintenance, repairs, and general maintenance activities.

Determines the nature and costs of required maintenance, repair, or project type work requested; prepares itemized estimate of time and material required to perform the work including staffing and equipment needed to accomplish the work.

REPORTS

Prepares and maintains essential records and files pertaining to equipment, materials, supplies, work pending, work completed, costs, time spent, and work status

Prepares clear, accurate, and informative statistical reports of the groups' programs and activities containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations. This may include but is not limited to:

  • Bi-annual Maintenance and Planning Survey
  • Full Maintenance Plan for the factory
  • Machinery Maintenance History
  • Survey Status and Surveys due
  • Overdue Jobs
  • Status of Jobs associated to Surveys or Recommendations
  • Spare Parts Usage and prediction of future requirements
  • Total cost of maintenance personnel and associated machine downtime for the factory or for each working department.
TEAM CREATION AND DEVELOPMENT

Select personnel as defined in the recruitment procedure. Motivate subordinates through participation in decisions and communication regarding matters that concern them

Develop personnel by improving their knowledge, attitudes and skills through training, job rotation, appraisals (or performance) and potential in accordance with the training procedure.

Ensure and or conduct disciplinary and grievance hearings in accordance with procedure and policies.

QUALITY

Stipulate the basic procedure, partial responsibilities and use of resources in order to achieve and maintain the specified quality.

Encourages quality awareness for work among the personnel in his/her department with appropriate instructions, communications and training in accordance to procedure.

Continuously monitor the quality of processes and systems through statistical analysis and initiates and verifies corrective and preventative action.

Implement the documentation of the preventative quality system within his/her control in his/her department.

Adhere ISO 14001 requirements

SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT

Direct personnel in safe working practices as laid down in the Integrated Management System and the OHS Act.

Adhere to OSHAS 18001 and ISO 14001 requirements

Ensure all legal requirements are adhered to with respect to statutory maintenance

BUDGET

Draws up an expense budget and assists in the development of the annual capital and operating budget for retrofitting, refurbishing, renovation, and equipment replacement projects. And ensure those department expenses are within agreed tolerance limits of budget.

Continuously control assets and reduce cost by implementing cost cutting techniques.

EXPERIENCE SKILLS REQUIREMENT
  • Five (5) years of experience SHEQ Management and Maintenance Management
  • Five (5) years of managerial responsibility.
COMPUTER LITERACY
  • Experience in Microsoft Windows, Word, Project and Excel
  • Experience in SAP/R3 with specific relation to the Planned Maintenance module
  • Experience in CAD
  • Must be fluent in English and Afrikaans
