Responsibilities

Job Overview: The Maintenance Assistant will support maintenance artisans in daily tasks across the workshop and factory. The role involves hands on mechanical and electrical first-line maintenance, general equipment care, safe handling of tools and performing various physical tasks as required. This position is suited for a reliable, safety-conscious individual who is willing to learn, assist and grow within a technical environment.

Assist maintenance artisans with repairs and maintenance tasks.

  • Handle tools and perform small jobs under the supervision of an artisan.
  • Conduct first-line maintenance on mechanical and electrical machinery.
  • Clean equipment, tools, and work areas.
  • Contribute to and comply with all safety and food safety systems.

Maintenance work in the workshop:

  • Grinding, welding, and drilling as required.
  • Operate electrical hand tools and workshop machinery safely.
  • Clean and maintain machinery in the workshop.

Maintenance in the factory:

  • Work on ladders, scaffolding, and at heights.
  • Operate on elevated platforms with railings.
  • Assist in moving machines such as cutters and presses.
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Perform maintenance tasks on roofs as needed.

Other Tasks:

  • Serve as a backup boiler operator if qualified.
  • Perform various physical and manual tasks daily.
  • Work in cold rooms with low temperatures and drying tunnels with high temperatures.
  • Serve as a backup forklift driver when qualified.
Qualifications
  • Matric/Equivalent.
  • Basic hand skills.
  • Basic welding.
  • Knowledge of GMP's, Food Safety and EHS.
  • Forklift license would be advantageous.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
