Job Description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies requires a reputable Pharmacist for its Vaal Mall store. The role involves providing pharmaceutical care by taking responsibility for patients' medicine-related needs and ensuring all needs are met.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • BPharm / equivalent qualification
  • Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Min 2-3 years experience in Pharmacy
  • 2-3 years retail pharmacy experience (Student/Intern)
  • Computer literate - MS Office

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients' medicine-related needs, determining the indication, safety, and effectiveness of therapy.
  • Dispense medicines or scheduled substances on prescriptions from authorized prescribers.
  • Sign off and check all prescriptions prepared by assistants or interns, accepting accountability for their correctness.
  • Provide information and advice about medicine use to patients.
  • Determine patient compliance and follow up to ensure needs are met; provide pharmacist-initiated therapy.
  • Compounding, manipulation, preparation, or packaging of medicines, or supervise these activities.
  • Manufacture or supervise the manufacture of medicines.
  • Purchase, acquire, import, store, package, re-package, supply, or sell medicines or scheduled substances, or oversee these processes.
  • Apply for the registration of medicines in accordance with the Medicines Act and Pharmacy Act.
  • Perform acts pertaining to the pharmacy profession as prescribed above.
  • Formulate medicines for registration purposes.
  • Distribute medicines or scheduled substances.
  • Re-package medicines.
  • Initiate and conduct pharmaceutical research and development; promote public health.
  • Accurately interpret scripts and act responsibly within legal requirements.
  • Capture script details and verify patient details in the system.
  • Ensure accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medication; stay aware of common dosages and drug interactions.
  • Provide clear instructions to patients on correct medicine use.
  • Keep up to date with changes in medical aid procedures and claim requirements.
  • Advise patients at the dispensary, self medication counter, and front shop.
  • Follow up with patients regarding script tracking reports and appointments.
  • Explain medical aid costs to patients.
  • Follow through on promises made to customers.
  • Evaluate disease conditions and refer to in store health facilities when necessary.
  • Process paperwork for claims to medical aids.
  • Correct errors on scripts rejected by medical aids.
  • Ensure authorization of chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medication.
  • Maintain customer profiles in the system.
  • Merge profiles locally and notify Vexall for central merge.
  • Take note of any messages on customer profiles and act appropriately.
  • Assist the Dispensary Manager in ensuring all administrative functions are carried out correctly and timely.
  • Report low or out of stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager.
  • Facilitate bi annual stock takes.
  • Exercise stock, cash, and asset control.
  • Assist with stock control processes and ensure registers are kept up to date per legislation.
  • Maintain housekeeping in accordance with Dis Chem standards.
  • Adhere to Dis Chem policies, procedures, standard operating procedures, health and safety rules, and uniform/personal appearance policy.
