A leading property development company is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Legal Associate with experience in commercial and litigation law, and some exposure to property and construction law is highly advantageous. This is a permanent, full-time, in-office role with some flexibility around lunch. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:30.

The ideal candidate will assist the legal team in ensuring compliance with legislation and JSE requirements, support contract drafting and review, and provide guidance on property and construction-related legal matters. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while supporting operational and legal compliance across the business.

Responsibilities
  • Legal Compliance & Administration:
    • Assist with administration to ensure compliance with various legislation and JSE requirements.
    • Support the legal team in POPIA compliance and other regulatory obligations.
    • Draft and update policies to ensure legislative adherence.
    • Remain updated on all construction and property legislation.
    • Provide staff training and updates on legislative amendments.
  • Contracts & Agreements:
    • Assist with drafting, reviewing, and updating all legal agreements within the group.
    • Support the Senior Legal Advisor with research and drafting legal opinions.
    • Assist in drafting finance documentation and commercial agreements.
    • Coordinate with external legal advisors when required.
    • Ensure legal documentation is standardised and protects the company's interests.
  • Property & Corporate Governance:
    • Assist with body corporate matters and ensure governance compliance.
    • Provide support on rental queries and legal aspects of development projects.
    • Understand and assist with Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) compliance within the property sector.
Requirements
  • LLB Degree and admitted attorney
  • 1-2 years' post-admission experience
  • Notary and Conveyancing qualifications or experience advantageous
  • Experience in commercial and litigation law, with exposure to property/construction law preferred
  • Strong understanding of legal principles and compliance requirements
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Deadline-driven, high sense of urgency, and attention to detail
  • Reliable, dependable, and able to manage multiple tasks
